Max Out Matthews?

When you told your last boss you wanted to leave, did he offer to wipe your *** after using the bathroom or did he just say, "see ya later." It was NOT Utah's choice to let Kanter leave. They were perfectly willing to play him 25-30 mins, have him test free agency and then match an offer (or not, depending on what they valued him at). They did the same with Gordon. Unlike Enes, Hayward went out, got his offer, and returned to the team when they matched, He didn't demand a trade, didn't bitch and complain, In fact, based on his physique and improvements to his game, he worked harder than he ever had in the off-season. It was Kanter's and Ergul's choice to demand the trade and make some pretty wild claims (best of his generation). That kind of attitude and absurdity killed his trade value.

This is silly. Who cares what Kanter and his agent said? We set a precedent where we show everyone that they don't wear the pants. We're not taking less value back for you just because you want to be a whiny bitch. Be a whiny bitch all you want, but by damn you're still our bitch and you don't move until we say so, so STFU.

8-10 mil max. No way Matthews is a Max player. He is in ballpark of Aaron Afflalos upcoming deal. Good news is Portland will not likely be able to keep both. Maybe Paul Allen will spend though?

I wouldn't max Matthews, and I don't think the Jazz would either.

I'd draft Hezonja and see where Burks and Hood are at in their development. Exum and Hezonja have good length and athleticism on the perimeter, and I think both will shoot a good percentage from 3-pt range. Favors and Gobert defend the paint pretty well. Hayward glues it all together.

So instead of using our cap space, we shouldn't use it?

Makes 0 sense when we can add a long-term piece. Even if Hezonja is good, he probably isn't as good as Matthews for his first 3 years. We need to start making contending for a playoff spot next year. Our goal after this year goes from getting assets/picks to upgrading the roster/winning to convince current pieces Utah is the place to be. Hayward is going to be a UFA and we need to convince him to stay as well as Favors. We got to start getting quality championship level players. Matthews is a top defender and shooter, we need him.

I'd give him 13 million easy, I'd probably go 15 million. One of the best defenders and one of the best shooters. Very consistent, reliable, and is rarely ever injured.

I'm wondering how one comes to that conclusion.

Because it would seem to me that the wealth would get spread around more to all of the players, rather just the free agent class in 2016.

Here is a quote from a story about it

The NBA apparently had pitched two versions of a proposal to "smooth" that infusion of money into the system to avoid artificially bidding up salaries of the players who happened to hit the market that summer, at the expense of the majority who would remain under contract. By "smoothing" the increase -- with the cap rising by lesser amounts, with the difference from the players' CBA-guaranteed share of the league's revenues divvied up proportionally among them all -- those locked into contracts would benefit from the added cash.

They are denying anyone any money. They are just spreading it around.

So you sit disgruntled in your cubicle bitching about the company, your role, the disrespect they're showing you. But the company keeps you there - just to teach you a lesson?
We were NEVER getting a good asset for Kanter.

1. He signs an offer sheet for $15M/per. Jazz won't match, he walks for nothing.
2. We find some FA's we like, Have to rescind the QO to Kanter in order to sign them. No return.
3. Kanter signs the QO. All we can then do is use our MLE on another FA. Kanter plays like a selfish bitch for the entire season to boost his numbers.
a) He's an UFA and leaves at the end of the season, or
b) We trade him at the deadline to a contender. They give us a late 1st to rent him for 1/2 the season
4. A S&T trade? Not going to happen. Those are largely a thing of the past. Kanter/Ergul have already claimed he's the best of his generation. He's NOT going to accept a deal in the $10-12M range, especially if Utah could match. His QO is too close to that.

Kanter is going to sign the QO unless some team is crazy enough to throw $60M at him.

Pretty well?

Looking at Matthew's stats, over the 5.5 years he has been in the league, he has shot below 35% from deep in only 3 months (in months with over 10 games) and that was twice in his rookie year.

Everything hinges on whether or not Aldridge stays or leaves.

8-10 million a joke for Matthews though. He is worth at least 12 easy.

I think Carroll may get $8-10 M... Wes' range starts at 12.

Take whatever you think is a good price and times it by 150% and that will be closer to what they get.

Oh, knowing that, it now makes some sense. Thank you. Like I said, I know very little about the whole situation. I would still vote against that plan, however.

What would the max be for Matthews? I have a feeling many people are including nostalgia as a factor in their analysis.

You don't think it's a little convenient for Lebron to have the cap jump all the way up the year he can sign a new deal and get a fat raise?
You don't think that's a conflict of interest? Of course Lebron the wanna be billionaire will be all for the major increase.

Facepalm yourself bitch.

The people who benefit the most from a one time jump are the people of the 2016 fa class. They all will benefit from it eventually, but why not everyone benefit right off the bat?

If I'm a player and I just signed my new deal, (like Favors), then I'm voting for a piece of the pie to come my way right now. I don't want to wait til I'm a free agent again.

I agree.

Mathews is a really smart player, and plays hard. He helps win games. I couldn't believe we didn't keep him, and signed Raja Bell. One of the worst basketball decisions ever made in the history of sports. Boom.

Should we do it?

What else are we going to spend our money on?

Does it affect our ability to keep any of our core?

God no. You're better than this.

I'm not going to go through the thread, but has anyone explained why they think the Spurs will match Leonard? They're losing their stars, and pop is likely gone. It would make sense that they'll go full rebuild. If that is the case, would Leonard be interested in joining the Jazz? Or is he more likely to go to a contender?

Full rebuild for SAS doesn't necessarily mean not matching Leonard - it more than likely means letting Duncan and Ginobli retire and then dumping Diaw - that's 25+ mil right there..
