Mo on Marvin

So our starting line up looks like this?

Mo
Gordan
Marvin
Sap
Big Al

****! That means burks is going to get buried behind Foye....

That's my guess as to what Corbin will do. I hope he'll start Favors but I think this is more realistic.

If so it is not a good sign. I am not in panic mode yet but not a good sign.

Would I be crazy to get excited about Marvin Williams? What can my expectations be?

For now I'm trying to set them low so I won't be disappointed. (I'm setting them at I hope he replaces Josh Howard)

According to Locke, in his latest tip-off video, a lot of people are saying Marvin Williams is the best shooter on the team.

Can you really trust any news that comes out of training camp? Last year they hyped Memo like nobody's business. As the year went on we saw that Memo couldn't keep up.

Two years ago DWill said it was the most talented team he'd ever been a part of.

P.S. Thanks for telling me that though! I didn't want it to look like I'm getting after you... I really appreciate it!

For the record, two years ago they also said Big Al was in great shape. A year later they were saying how his first year Big Al didn't really come ready to play.

Marvin is clearly the Jazz' best SF, so I'm not surprised. I hope Burks is Hayward's main back up, allowing him to play ~20 minutes a game or so. Favors' need to average at least ~25. I honestly don't know how they'll pull it off.

After hearing his interviews it doesn't seem like Burks is going to be content with anything less. He wants to be a starter, and it sounds like he expects it.

Good as long as he keeps that attitude in check a little and doesnt get bitter. I like some attitude and cockiness.

Could go either way. Unfortunately, the Jazz have 7 guys right now that should probably start (Favors, Millsap, Jefferson, Hayward, Mo and Marvin Williams, and Burks). We figure the big situation will take care of itself this summer (at the very worst). The wing situation is touchier. Ideally, I think Hayward and Marbin should be the starters. Marvin has the ideal size at SF and if Gordon can hold his own defensively, then he creates matchup problems for the opoosition on the other end. I just think Burks is an ideal 6th man. He can drive and get to the line. Put him with the starters and he's fighting for touches. Use him off the bench and he can be the 1st or 2nd option.

I'd be down with that as long as Burks, Kanter and Favors/Millsap get heavy minutes.

It could also mean Burks will be our primary back-up SF. I don't think he's big enough for a starting SF, but I can see a [Watson/Tinsley]-Foye-Burks-Kanter-[Favors/Millsap] bench as doing a lot of damage.

Big Al, Favors, Marvin Willimas, Foye, Mo Williams and a Kanter, Millsap, Hayward, Burks, Foye groupings could be quite effective.

Each has some inside scoring, hustle, D, shooting, driving...

Good thoughts (except for listing Foye 2x).
Substitute Hayward for Foye in that 1st group and that's my vote for the starting five. Favors and Al inside and Mo and Marvin outside. Gordon provides some driving and hopefully improves his shooting. If he could ever master the Harpring shot (hitting off the curl), Hayward would be deadly.

Not that the Jazz ever need to have a purely "2nd unit," but I do like the outside shooting of Foye paired with the drive and dish ability of Burks. I just don't know why the Jazz insist of subbing "en masse." There's simply no need to have 5 subs on the floor at any given time. Jazz could always have 2-3 main guys on the floor with their subs. Of course this season the bench is much deeper. There may not be much of a drop when the subs come in, especially if Burks and Millsap are the main offensive options. But if Kanter can't provide some punch, I think you'd have to make sure either Gordon or Marvin are in there at SF, vs. the defense-minded Carroll, or one-dimensional Evans.
