Burks for Ajinca, Cunningham and Clark would put New Orleans over the luxury by a simple roster waive. They could easily handle that or just send that 2 way type player our way or Chicago's way to make up for it.

Luxury is not a worry in this deal. Sure, New Orleans would love to send Asik in this deal but I just don't see us or Chicago taking Asik. Maybe we do, but that would be a straight Asik and a 1st for Burks

Asik's contract is terrible.
 
If NOLA came to the Jazz right now and said Asik/Ajinca/1st round unprotected for Burks, DL would be dumb as hell not to do that.

Asik's contract is terrible... two more years after this one at 11M and 12M for a guy who is basically unplayable.

Yep, you're right Cy. Those contracts are great. Or as Woj put is moribund. Maybe you need a dictionary...

New Orleans is limited in its tradable assets. No one is taking the moribund contracts of Omer Asikand Alexis Ajinca without the Pelicans including a first-round draft pick -- if not more -- in the deal.

Can you read? He said Ajinca and Asik. He didnt say *or*.

Also, New Orleans would want to do that deal for expirings, not Burks equally moribund contract.
 
According to your logic Cy, the Pelicans wouldn't consider Asik and a 1st for Burks. That's because New Orleans stays in the exact same

If Utah's position is to hold in 2018 UFA and go all in on 2019, taking on Asik/Ajinca for a first rounder would be a solid move.

Probably true, but the last salary dump was a Toronto 1st and 2nd for DMC. DMC's contract is not nearly as terrible as Asik+Ajinca (the extra year on Asik is no bueno). The value of the pick is higher though... especially if unprotected.

I forgot AB was in the deal doe... Cy is right we would do that deal unless we have major plans in 2019 FA... even then we could waive and stretch asik and take the cap hit down to $4M that year.

Yeah, but wouldn't you have to give up Johnson or Favors rather than Burks?

They are owed a combined 16 million next year and 3 million in 2019. Utah isnt going to be a player in 2018 UFA unless they do some major salary dumping and who would they sign? Parker? That would be a huge risk to spend assets necessary to dump enough money (ie trading Burks for an expiring) just to offer Parker a max when the Bucks could and probably would match.

So under the assumption that 2018 is a hold year in terms of Utah making signings, taking on 16 million in 2018 isnt a huge deal.

My bad... I use baskeball insiders and thought it was a blue player option.

It's still terrible because Asik is terrible... it's not Mozgov or Deng terrible though.

Yeah, but if they Jazz arent trying to sign anyone in 2018, why does it matter?

Take into account Burks is owed 10 million next year. So basically the Jazz would just be taking on additional 6 million to get a 1st rounder.
 
The deal would need to be Thabo/JJ for Asik/Ajinca for a 1st... I'd do it.

Yeah, I'd imagine so, in which case the Jazz probably couldnt do it as that would probably put them in the LT next year after signing Exum and Hood.

But under Lopo's assumption they actually want Burks, it's a no-brainer to take on both for that 1st.
