What's new

Game Thread Oct 26, 2022 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs Rockets

One thing I really wish is that our offense was more purposeful in getting touches for Markkanen.

With how efficient he's been, the guy should honestly be getting like twice as many touches as he's currently getting.
I think we all agree with that but Cy made a good point about Markannen seems to get winded and maybe more touches would wear him out.

No clue what to make of this team, how I’m supposed to feel, or what I’m supposed to want.

Been a fun NBA season so far though.
Ya if we go on a nice losing streak then I will definitely jump right back on the tankwagon. But hell, as long as we are winning (and beating tough teams in close games on the road to boot) might as well win em all.

I think if he gets his fouling under control then maybe that means he isn't playing quite as hard and that lessons his value. He gets some cheap fouls crashing the boards but I dont want him to stop crashing the boards for example. Thats what make him great.
I don't think it needs to be either or. In any case he isn't crashing the boards when he's sitting on the bench with foul trouble. He's averaging five fouls per game so far, and it's really limiting his time on the floor.

That’s the problem though. That losing streak will happen, it has too. And at that point how will we feel about these wins we picked up early on that are now months passed but killing us in the tank standings?

And maybe it never truly happens and we actually scratch, claw, and grit our way into the playoffs. Fun story and all. But we would get absolutely smoked, it would be ugly. And then what do we have? A ‘winning culture’ and zero lotto balls. Who is happy if the end result is a 4 game sweep in the playoffs and zero lottery picks?

even worse is not really close to the playoffs but the 13th, 14th pick range

The rough schedule we got willk tell us. We are on the edge. shooting too much 3 pts and rely mostly on Lauri and Mike to set up the tone. Mike who is 35 .... i won't be surprised if we go for 0-6 and joint the tank race.

Ya as awesome as he is, I have concerns with his outside shot. Really flat

I think he is again going through adjustment phase. Last season started as bad with his threes when he first time had to start as small forward and run more. This season to start his minutes and usage has been about highest ever. He is also going more aggressive in the offense than in years. I thin it is gonna take at least month or two he gets again adjusted to it. He did Finnish real strong from downtown with the Cavs after he got used to his new role in the NBA, defending smaller wings more. In the Eurobasket his arc with threes was fine, so It has to be about him adjusting to biggest minutes and role he ever had.

Yes, the worse pick of those two essentially.

So does that mean that brooklyn and philly both have a little imcentive to fimish worse than the other at the end of the season in order to keep their pick?

Woukd be funny to see a mini tank race between those two at the end of the year.

Some of the fouls have been BS though. Im thinking that he can continue to play the same way he has played and maybe the whistle will start going his way as he gets a reputation as a draymond/rodman type. He is getting treated like a rookie right now but if the jazz keep winning and he continues to do what he does then i think he will get less fouls simply by getting more respect.

If we make the playoffs then that means we have a good young team and an amazing coach (he would probably win coach of the year) and a **** ton of assets and lots of money to spend on fee agents.

Being a good young team with tons of money, a million draft picks, and the best coach in the nba would be a good result imo.

What if markannen ends up beng better than VW? What if vando turns into prime draymond? Maybe this team is actually really good and this isnt all fools gold.

No, Philadelphia owes their pick to Brooklyn regardless of what happens.

Houston also has the right to swap their first with Brooklyn this year.
