What's new

October 17th - UTAH JAZZ vs. Los Angeles Clippers (8:30pm MST)

pretty fun game to watch for a preseason game. Clippers really stepped up there defense at the end of the 2nd quarter and in the second half. It took away our running game. Glad that happend in a preseason game so the Jazz know that they aren't going to be able to just run teams off the floor like they did to the Lakers. Sap needs to let his game come to him instead of trying to do it all himself. Liked the way the bench played again tonight. Evans was fun to watch also. Don't think I have ever watch a game that had as many blocked shots as this one.

That game was more fun than a lot of regular-season games. The Jazz running early, Millsap and Griffin going at it, the game coming down to the wire. I'm glad this one was televised.

I cautioned against him in the draft. VERY pleasantly surprised how he's come along.

Assuming CP3 stays with the Clippers, there's no way they'll be able to keep Bledsoe beyond his rookie contract. He's too good not to get a toxic offer sheet from somewhere, and he'll be probably asking for a bigger extension than the Clippers will want to pay.

Talk money.

With Utah becoming a running team, Al Jefferson has become more useless than ever. I honestly wouldn't even be mad if we just trade him for picks at this point. It'd give Favors starting minutes, and it would bring Jeremy Evans into the rotation. I feel he can excel if we keep up the tempo.

There was a lot to like about last night's game but there were some things that caused some concern. Yea I know it is preseason. I thought the Jazz struggled in the half court in the second half. The Clippers got physical with our guards and they didn't handle it well. I think teams will adjust to the Jazz wanting to run the fast break so how are the Jazz going to do running their offense.

I certainly like Burks playing the PG over Foye. I think you take away Foye's best attribute spot up shooting when you play him at PG. I thought the first stringers played really selfishly in the 3rd quarter. Some times this happens when you have too much depth because each player starts to think they need a turn at shooting. Or maybe guys just got tired and started chucking up shots. I think this will be the biggest issue (juggling playing time and playing as a team) during the season.

I was a big fan of Bledsoe coming out of college. I am still not sure he is a pure PG but the kid is fast and can get in the lane anytime he wants.

I am still concerned about Hayward. I didn't see the first half but he looked horrible in the 3 rd quarter. He looks like the same player. Inconsistent and when he is good he is good and when he plays bad he starts to play passive.

Again I know it is preseason but what would Jazz basketball be without a little worry.

It is hard to say what Bledsoe will command. Teams are still overpaying for anyone that still has potential but hasn't reached it yet. My guess is that Bledsoe will get something around 3 years 25 million.

Nah, he is a UK player. HE will get at least the max.

When haven't our starters played selfishly? Millsap and Jefferson were just awful tonight.

We have one of the biggest black holes in the game. Haven't we all gotten used to him playing selfishly? We have a big man Monta Ellis. Jefferson is worthless.

Our bench looked more energetic and more cohesive than our starting unit. They played defense and got out on the break. Our starters? I'm sorry guys, too slow. Big Al is bogging this team down. I'd rather roll with Kanter than Jefferson. Kanter is already a better post player, gets to the FT line more, and a LOT better defender/rebounder. With more time he'll be a better player than Black Hole.

The block and dunk Evans had was nasty.

If you didn't watch the 1st half then the 2nd half was a little deceiving. The Jazz were obviously gassed halfway through the 3rd. Corbin let em play and didn't call any time outs and they started chucking early in the clock.

My one concern is our early offense with Jamaal at PG. He doesn't push the ball like Mo and Foye/Burks, so we don't get out and run early as often. With Mo's injury history, I have a feeling Jamaal will stagnate the offense a bit and force us into the half court. Just a thought.

How many "running teams" run five players? If Jefferson can make a decent outlet pass (I think he had a few last night), he fits just fine.

It seemed like Burks really struggled to play the point. He was so busy protecting his dribble he couldn't even get a pass out, at times.

Kanter may have been the best player in the Williams trade. I was very impressed.

Hayward seems to have put on some muscle.

Evans was amazing. Before he seemed like a one-trick pony, but last night I saw good defense, good positioning, and I think even some rebounding.

A few overall thoughts on the game:

1. I loved Hayward's aggressiveness at the beginning. Unfortunately, he didn't do much in the second half.
2. The Millsap-Griffin matchup was fun to watch. It makes me wish I could watch Saturday's game.
3. The 3rd quarter was lousy.
4. It was good to see Foye and Burks hit some big shots down the stretch.
5. On the last play by the Jazz, one thing definitely working against them was the location they had to inbound from.

I think he'll get offered more per year. Something like 3 years, $29 million. That's way too much to pay for your backup PG, which I suspect he will still be as I anticipate that CP3 re-signs after this season.

I'll admit it: I don't hate Al if he makes a good quick outlet pass and the other 4 run. If he then does his best to get down the court and be in position for the second wave of offense, then we can use his ability to get his own shot.

The bigger issue is defense. He just needs to give more consistent effort and move his feet.

Exactly. We won't be running all game and will need a half court option. Whether that's Al, Sap, Favors, or whoever is the question. Right now, Al is obviously the most productive choice.
