What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

Considering I have 15 reps in 75 posts (20%) and you have 19 reps in 1493 posts (1.3%) I'd say somebody has a problem with quantity vs quality...

Rep power is based in part on how long you have been a member, which is the cause of much of your 15.

Of those three? Gotta be Snyder. Dude has a good coaching tree, has won at diff levels, sounds like he's analytical and is obviously a pretty bright dude with and MBA and JD from Duke.

Also, other players have praised him, including Junkyard dog saying Snyder is the first coach to work with him on footwork and his shot.

Sidenote, what does that say about how bad Ty and Sidney The idiot are?

Cute over-reaction! Obviously, I wan't insulting you personally, but was expressing disgust toward Boylen potentially becoming the Jazz's head coach. Whatever, it's all good.

I was trying to be snarky... Looks like it worked! :p Please don't mistake my post as a vote of confidence for Boylen, I'm personally not a fan. I was simply trying to express my opinion about what is going on inside the FO.

It's 100% guaranteed we won't win **** under Gentry!! Yes, his offense is fun to watch, but his teams don't play a lick of defense, and this team as constructed isn't going to just out score anyone. He is a flawed coach, and I'd rather take my chances with the unknown then have no chance at contending.

I guess it depends on what you consider winning at this level. Frankly, I'm not under any illusions the Jazz's next hire will be capable of getting this team to the NBA Finals and on the brink of a championship - not without potentially drafting a mega-star. So, I look at Gentry as a coach who, with the right tools, can probably maximize the talent and win enough to be exciting and competitive. It's possible Griffin or Snyder do, too, but it's also possible they're just as poor of a head coach as Ty Corbin.

Boylen is no longer a candidate, according to Jody.

He says there are four now:

Gentry
Snyder
Griffin
?

And ... some unknown candidate the Jazz aren't mentioning (Messina, Blatt?).

I'll take whoever represents the question mark. That's good to hear about Boylen. Who knows, maybe he'll go on and be a great head coach, but it just couldn't happen here given his history in SLC.

It's a good thing I've given up sarcastic snarky posts, because I would have immediately identified Ty Corbin as the mystery candidate and cited his credentials as better than the other three.

Better than Snyder? Give me a break.

Stockton could be tight lipped about it, or Messina cause he's still coaching! We need to get this coach right...

Gentry would be frankly disappointing to me. I could get on board with Griffin or Snyder. The question mark is intriguing...

My fantasy: Messina as head coach, Stockton as 1st assistant.

So President Rigby was on 1280 this afternoon, and I must say that Dennis Lindsey must be rubbing off on him...he didn't give up much. He would not confirm that the jazz are down to 4 candidates. He said that jazz don't just hire a coach they marry a coach. No word yet if attorney general Reyes will recognize the marriage, maybe that is why the coach search is now in its 7th week.

But he did talk sort of like maybe a decision had been made of some sorts. He said they were much further along this week than last week and that he expects to be even further along next week. He went on to say he feels very good and very comfortable and it feels right within his heart (abt 17:35). I don't know if that was about the process, about a specific coach or about the values they put in place.

He also said the candidates were excited and ...

After all the nice things JVG said about the Jazz, I wish it were him. With his brother jumping back into coaching, you have to wonder if Jeff wouldn't entertain the idea as well. JVG or Messina for me!

There is no doubt in my mind that if JVG wanted the job he'd already have been announced as our coach. It's gotta be one of the Euros.
