Official Player Workouts for the Utah Jazz

Man this thread took a strange turn.

I'd be pretty happy with Gordon, so far he's really impressed teams in his workouts. I haven't heard much of Vonleh work outs...

I read a few pages of the lakers forum after Vonleh went there and people didn't seem to love him after seeing videos of his workouts. Haven't seen the videos yet but just passing along what I heard.

And if Vonleh becomes an all-star, I'll be bumping some of my posts!

But I agree with you. If Lindsey, Perrin and Snyder pick Gordon over Vonleh, I'm ok with that. Gordon is right after Vonleh on my wish list. He fits our immediate needs a little better, but I just think Vonleh can be an elite talent at the 4.

If Vonleh becomes an All-star I will bump some of your posts. I'll admit I'm a bit of a Gordon fanboy at this point. After the top 4 I find him to be the most intriguing prospect. I'm a little worried about passing on Smart, much less so on Randle, and even less on Vonleh. I just don't see the promise in him that some of you do. Plus his gait is funky.

I liked it. No one seems to actually talk about his season anymore, unless it's about how his team sucked/was underused. Though those things might be true, we can't ignore how he played.

Absolutely. But I can't think of one player in this draft that doesn't have at least 3 weaknesses that can be pointed out. Lots of potential in this draft but not a lot of polish outside of Parker's offense, in the top 5 or so.

Posted this in others but thought I'd post here. Some others who have followed Vonleh close, how fair are the crits?

Vonleh did some impressive things as a college freshman, and he looked out of place in other situations. He was playing center, which is not his natural position, since he sees himself as a point-forward. So he just wasn't very fluid overall. Plus he was going up against double-teams in the paint. The strength of his game is facing up out on the floor, but it would have been nice to see him do an up-fake and drive to the rim. He just didn't get the space to do it. I don't think he's a superstar, necessarily. I think he's like a Rashard Lewis or Donyell Marshall with a better handle, more defense and more inside game. That's still a good player, but not a reliable #1 option.

I'd still rather draft Parker or Exum.

I liked Shabazz, Schroder, MCW, Mason Plumlee, Gobert and was the only advocate i can remember on this board for Tim Hardaway Jr. at 21.

(I liked Hardaway Jr. over Trey... posters in the draft thread were saying he wasn't worth a 2nd round pick, IIRC)

assuming the Gobert trade, if i had the chance to re-select those picks 14 and 21 after the draft it would have been

Shabazz or Schroder at 14, id have probably staken Shabazz though. At 21 Plumlee was a no-brainer to me. My first course of action in Free agency would have been to offer Jeff Teague near 40 mil over 4 years ( I was posting this stuff, its not revisionist history)

So you are mad the Jazz drafted Burke over Shabazz?

I don't know if anyone has told you yet, but Shabazz sucks. So, I don't really know what the problem is. That would have been a bad pick.

sick burn!

what are you ****ing 10? you get called out for having aaron gordons (removed), and that weak dismissive **** is your comeback?

I hate to say it but thats exactly the type of lame **** id expect to see on a Utah message board.

Hey, I don't take kindly to you talking trash on "a Utah message board". What the **** you trying say?

Do you think you are smarter than us, mister Alec Burks should play point guard?

If Aaron Gordon can consistently make the corner 3 at game speed, he will be well worth the #5 pick. First, because that would complement the rest of his game perfectly, and second it would show that he works hard and can learn.

Are you kidding me? If Aaron Gordon can consistently make corner 3's (and improve on it to other locations), I think he's solidly the 3rd best player in this draft after Wiggins and Embiid.

Aaron Gordon with a jumpshot will beat Jabari one-on-one today, and has x2 the ceiling in the future.

Shame on you for slurping on Aaron Gordon so religiously, I've never seen a poster on any basketball forum so infatuated with a player that they need to bring him up almost every post, its probably deep-seated issues tbh.

you are talking **** about someone being in love with a certain player?

Are you not the same way in regards to noah vonleh?

Nah its not just one pick, Trey last year has some to do with it.

I followed Kanter and Burks to the Jazz and wanted to root for players I like, theres still penty of them here but if AG's the pick i'm probably going to follow Noah to a different bottom feeding team. Ill wait to see the dust settle from the draft, but even if the Jazz draft 2 of my favorite players at 23 and 35, ill still be gone if Gordons the pick.

I was a DIE HARD knicks fan, id watch every game during 20 win seasons, When the Knicks took Gallinari over Brook Lopez i was so angry at the team i dont think i ever was able to forgive them, I'd feel similarly if Gordon is the pick.

I have a feeling you're a little confused on what a die hard fan is.

Btw, Nate's reasons for editing have been the best part of this thread. Props to Nate, whom I used to hate.

/that rhymed

Do we draft on practice or game results though? Dwight Howard is an 80% free throw shooter in practice and melts when under the microscope. We have all seen the video of Stauskas making 70/76 three pointers in his backyard. As good as he is, shoots under half the percentage in game.

Sounds like workouts went good today, though Hairston wasn't able to because of back spasms. Which caused problems for the drills...

This.

I could see Aaron Gordon becoming one of the top 3 best players in this draft when he starts hitting those corner 3's and consistent FT shot. Could be better than Wiggins easily because Wiggins doesn't have the fire Gordon has by inserting his will into or on the game. Also could be better than Embiid if Embiid is injury prone with his history of back issues or Embiid's back never pans out. Just want to end off with watch Walt Perrin's interview from Sportsbeat Sunday where he has seen dramatic improvements on Aaron Gordon's shot and knows Aaron has the desire and work ethic to become better, I will try and find a link...it's about the 3:25 mark of the video!
