Official Player Workouts for the Utah Jazz

Every team has a "token" 5th starter who is not a primary option on offense. And the Jazz have no SF's (if Hayward is indeed a SG). Marvin is a decent defender and can knock down the three. Unless the Jazz draft a stud SF, Williams would be a decent 20 min/per player. He starts and comes out early, then Hayward slides over to SF when Burks enters the game. Gordon/Alec get 35 mins each, Williams gets 20-25. Or have Marvin come off the bench if Hayward can be the starting SF. Just depends on who the Jazz draft or acquire in a trade. What I like about Marvin is he can also fill in at PF in case of injuries. For the right price, he'd be a good veteran to keep.

Well if the Jazz draft a SF with their lottery pick there is no reason to keep him.

As a swing forward and injury insurance he'd still have value.
Even with Kanter/Favors/Gobert and Hayward/Burks/Wiggins, you still need a 4th big for 10-15 mins. and a 4th wing for around 5-10 mins. Of course, it also depends on who the Jazz draft with their 23rd pick. Someone like Payne could fit in nicely as their 4th big. Or vice versa; maybe they get a PF with #5 and then pick up a SF at #23.

You said there weren't enough minutes for Kanter/Favors/Gobert and now you are talking about needing a 4th big. I rather play Jeremy Evans instead of spending 5-6 million a year on Marvin.

How are there not enough mins for Kanter, Favors and Gobert? 96/3 = 32 and it's a sure bet Gobert ain't playing 32 mins. If the Jazz were to draft a PF, THEN there aren't enough mins. for those other 3. The problem with Evans is he doesn't stretch the floor. So play Jeremy inside and have Enes spot up for a corner 3? I'm not opposed to having Enes shot 1-2 a game to keep him happy. But Enes' true value is as an offensive rebounder. Let him drift outside constantly and you take that away.

Besides, even with a raise for Hayward, the Jazz are going to have to spend some money to reach the salary floor. If they can't get a couple of higher-priced players via FA or a trade, Marvin would be a good guy to sign on a 2-yr deal. Then he's off the books once money starts to get a little tight.

I didn't say there weren't enough minutes for the big 3 men. You did in an early post. Well since we don't know what everyone's contract will be it is simply speculation on if we have enough money and if Marvin is looking to take a pay cut. The Jazz have a lot of young guys, I'd rather save the money on them instead of giving it to vets who have a history of getting hurt and disappearing. Jeremy isn't a 3 pt shooter but he has a nice 15 foot jump shot. Beside we are talking about 15-20 minutes a game. Again it depends on who we draft, what happens if we draft a shooter at 23 and a SF with our lotto pick. Do we need big guys shooting 3 pointers. I am not saying you don't have some valid points, I just saying it is too early to think about bringing Marvin back without knowing what the Jazz will need. I am not completely against bringing him back about 90/10. I just don't see him wanting to take a substantial pay cut and after next year the Jazz will need every penny they can get.

^^
Fortunately the draft is before free agency begins so Utah will have the luxury of knowing what position(s) still need to be shored up.

We need to get a good coach who use these players better than Corbin. I don't mind any of these vets if they are used in the right way.

Corbin was too in love with the vets, and I think his philosophy wasn't best suited for this team. We need someone will balls. Big ones.

@ShamsCharania: Jack Cooley -- a 2013 summer league standout -- will participate in mini-camp workouts for Spurs, Nets, Cavs, Jazz, sources tell RealGM.

What's Luke Harangody up to these days. They might as well invite him as well.

if Haramgody might be seen as a finesse player, Cooley is just the opposite of that.
Hard nosed player, will fight hard, give you nice 6 fouls.
That's it. I liked him when he was a college player. But can he survive in NBA?
I don't think so!

Something else to look forward to on Tuesday. Jazz will be holding their 3rd workout with the following players scheduled to attend:

Towson forward Jerrelle Benimon (6-8, 245), Gonzaga forward/center Sam Dower Jr. (6-9, 243), Iowa State forward Melvin Ejim (6-6, 220), Connecticut guard/forward Niels Giffey (6-7, 204), Indiana State guard Jake Odum (6-4, 180) and Florida guard Scottie Wilbekin (6-2, 176).

Oh yeah I meant to post this. Still not that many recognizable players. I heard that the Bulls worked out 6 players from the combine the other day.

Running total will be 18 players to date: mostly wings.

Somebody ought to keep a running list. I nominate anyone else.

Rigby let it slip that they would be targeting a position of need. The jazz have worked out 14 sf types.

Rigby also said they would reach 81 workouts. I'm still not sure why, feels like something else is going on.
