OFFICIAL Postseason race thread *Sticky*

I'll give you the field and i'll take the Warriors for the championship.

What are the stakes?
If Warriors win, you're right. If they get eliminated, I'm right.

Not outside the possibility that Golden State loses, especially to the Spurs, an all time great team, and maybe the Cavs because of LeBron being one of the greatest players in history.
This is what vanilla mainstream fans get confused with. These teams are not "all time great", this circles back to the whole "league being very weak the last 2 years in comparison to before" thing, but clearly there are too many low BBIQ posters here for me not to be ridiculed about it, since everyone wants to say "I WAS THERE WHEN GOLDEN STATE SMASHED THE BULLS RECORD!" heh. Once again, we will see in the upcoming months - this thread is not the place for this conversation and will just delve into spamming immovable opinions to one another.

How about if Golden State wins you leave this board forever.

If they don't win then you are clearly just intellectually superior, and don't have time to waste on us vanilla mainstream fans. So you leave this board forever.

Deal?

So are you Old School a la Oscar Robertson and other former NBA players; someone who romanticizes the past to the extent that nothing in the present can ever compare to it?

Is GS an 'all time great?' Statistically, Yes, I believe it is by a number of measures. Could they beat the 71-72 Lakers or 95-96 Bulls or even the 78-79 Blazers before Walton got hurt? I don't know, and neither do you. So stop pretending you do.

I remember when Dallas had one of the all-time great regular seasons (67 wins) and the Warriors upset them as the 8th seed in the first round.

He's a chucker because he chucks up shots regardless of who is open and who isn't on his team, even if he's being defended (albeit poorly because most are afraid of getting a foul for breathing on him), regardless of if he's making his poor shot selection doesn't disregard most of his shots aren't the most open or best shots on the court at that point.

Very true.
I read an article earlier this year that showed Curry was shooting a higher % on contested shots than the rest of his team was on non-contested shots. There's virtually no such thing as a bad shot for Curry to take. I'll post the article later, if I can find it.

What empirical evidence do you have showing the league is "weaker" to whatever standard you have yet to divulge?

One side: Statistical evidence
Other side: liar liar pants on fire evidence.

Kind of vanilla arguing on your side.

Years from now, people will be saying "I remember when Golden State had the all-time greatest regular season (73 wins) and the Jazz upset them as the 8th seed in the first round."

What Curry has done is amazing. IMV, he is easily the most exciting player to watch since Jordan. I think the nineties were the golden age of basketball but I think the players and teams today are in many ways analogous to then. The NBA is as good as it has been in a long while. It's a great time for basketball, anyone that doesn't recognize that is just plain wrong.

Mavs won. Dang.

Memphis lost! Big big big.

Jazz win and the 5th seed is 3 games off. 3!!! And 6th is 1 game off! GO JAZZ!!

While I'm not necessarily going to argue that basketball was better in the '90s or '80s or whenever, I will point out that that nearly every major rule change in the NBA since I begun watching it has been designed with the sole purpose of helping out guards and creating more superstar guard. Everything from the restricted area under the basket(God, I loathe that one), to no hand-checking, to the defensive three-second violation. It's hard not to speculate about what the league would look like had they not done all this and who the stars would be.
