Official UofU homer thread

Man after USC loses to Washington at home tonight it's really shaping up nicely for us to be in the Pac 12 championship representing the south. ASU, USC, AZ and Colorado all have 2 losses and UCLA has 1, gives us some breathing room to where we really could afford a loss, which the obvious goal is go unbeaten but imo with this conference is unlikely to put out an undefeated team.

Yeah, it sure looks like it's gunna be Stanford Vs Utah for the P12 championship right now. I hope it works out that way cuz that sounds like one hell of a game.

Anyhow tomorrow's swag

^Those sleeves are way better than the mountain sleeves. The interlocking UU on the helmet is bad *** too. The Utes should rock this standard imo.

I agree. I'd still keep the Circle and Feather on the helmet, but do interlocking U's everywhere else.

Honestly I think the drum and feather is a caricature of all Native Americans and is just a rip off of the redskins logo. I hope they phase it out. If they want to keep with the Utes theme(I think they should) then use the Utes tribal pattern that they use on the Ute pride helmet and pants. I think that the interlocking UU would be bad *** with that pattern down the center of the helmet. I wouldn't put it on the pants but I like it on the helmet. It would be more unique, less of a caricature, and represent the tribe better imo. (Of course they would need the Ute tribes permission)

That's pretty cool
I especially like the tribal strip down the center of the helmet and side of the legs

Honestly, I think you should probly STFU.

If the Ute tribe has no problem with it, then it's more offensive to tell them what they should and shouldn't be offended by.

(My phone won't link the article about the Ute tribe officially approving the use of the name and the logo a couple years ago.)

Also, the University of Utah's use of the Drum & Feather pre-dates the Redskins use of something similar, and their racism and caricature of Native Americans has nothing to do with Utah's legitamite representation of a local people group.

You should stfu. It offends some members of other tribes. It is a caricature and Imv the Utes would be better without it. Where the Ute Tribe stands on the drum and feather isn't relevant to all native people. Further because of the redskins it reflects poorly on the school. I'm not going to tell the Ute tribe to be offended I'm simply willing to recognize that other Native Americans seem to be.

My wife is registered American Indian and I could if I wanted as her spouse register myself and have free dental etc. I don't cuz I'm not native. So please don't act like I haven't considered the matter.

LMAO some dude was trying to take a selfie with Herbstreit and the dude was so damn star struck. He couldn't even hold his phone steady enough to take the damn picture. It was hard to watch. Herbstreit was being really nice about it, but I could tell he was getting slightly annoyed. Eventually the dude had to let someone else take the picture for him.

Atmosphere around the set is great. President's Circle is a way better locale for Gameday than just the parking lot outside the stadium. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Also bold is wrong.

Utah has been using the drum and feather since 1975.(hence the interlocking U's on the throwback) The redskins have been using a version of it since the 1930's.

Nope. Redskins had a dude with a headress, but not a D&F til after the Utes did.

PS: i have a really good friend who is part of the Ute tribe. That Probly beats out your wife being Native American.

Probly.

I think maybe I didn't convey the point to my story very well. I'm not offended by it, my old lady isn't offended by it, but that's irrelevant. The point to my story is why I don't register myself, cuz I would be a phony. That's what the D&F is. It's phony and a good number of people are either offended by it or uncomfortable with it.

PS the Redskins put an R inside a drum in 1970, the Utes did it in 1975. Utah adopted the name Utes in 1972. Guess what they were called before then? yep the Redskins. The D&F is a total ripoff. No way around it.
