Official UofU homer thread

I think this controversy is ****ing hilarious. The game is pointless, the rivalry is dyeing. Just let it end, I don't want the Utes to play BYU anymore, there is no reason to. The fact that this controversy started because BYU started whining about it is hilarious. Oh No, they don't want to play us anymore, feel bad for us. If you didn't want the game cancelled then refuse a buyout clause in the contract. Dave Rose comes off as a whinny little bitch in the media regarding this "controversy". A controversy he started by whining about it. "Our school wouldn't pay that buyout that's a lot of money"...HAHAHA, maybe to a lowly WCC school it is a lot of money, but the buyout was supposedly $50,000 that is nothing to Utah.
.
Just end the series between these 2 schools, Utah should just finish up any contract they have with that school, or buy them out, and never deal with them again.

A couple of things:

1. Isn't BYU's RPI pretty darn bad this year? If I remember correctly I saw that they are pretty close to IPFW in RPI. If that's the case, they won't provide much of a boost.

2. Larry K paid the $80,000 buyout out of his own pocket.

Do you have a link for #2? I haven't seen this in all the stuff I've read about it.

The only thing I've heard about it is that it's rumored. I haven't heard anything concrete.

Sorry, I don't have a link.

Chris Hill stated it in the press conference from yesterday. I think you can pull up the recording somewhere.

It's a shame that such an old rivalry is ending or skipping a few years. There are better ways to solve the ugliness of the rivalry. Utah doesn't need to play byu to help them out but the same could be said of byu. they both can easily find similar level of competition to fill the game. Byu is down this year but normally is a solid basketball team with a good rpi. Utah is on the way up and hopefully getting back to their glory days. On a side note Larry must have something personal against byu or hoping this will get the players more on his side because paying that much out of pocket to not play one game a year is crazy. Also Chris hill claiming more or less they are too good to do home and home with any local teams is crazy. Plenty of much bigger better programs do home and homes with the local teams and with their own in state rivals. Utah would do well to move on from Chris hill imo.

That said BYU really needs to do something about their players taking cheap shots and need to shake that from their image. Utah is not the only team that complains about their cheap shots.

I could not agree more with all of that. I personally don't buy the "safety of the players" excuse. Not being the whole reason, anyway. It probably plays a part in it. But I truly believe Utah is big timing BYU.

This is Utah's coach just doing a power move. Probably, in his mind, the best case scenario is the rivalry is only dead for a year and BYU and Utah are begging for it to come back. He makes it come back and in the process, has humbled BYU and they kiss his feet for letting them play each other again. They don't commit a foul all game to show how nice they are.

Yes, it just happens to be a convenient thing to blame it on.

That being said, I don't know it happens if BYU players don't do the extremely stupid things a few of them have done lately.

I honestly think (and Larry mentioned this in the press conference) that Larry is not only worried about the safety of his players from cheap play, but he's also worried about the safety of BYU coaches and players from himself losing his temper and getting "scary".

Not kidding.

Larry's not blaming this whole thing on BYU. Far from it. He's acknowledging that he had a hard time controlling himself in the last instance of bad blood. He's a guy that grew up in an abusive household as a kid and he knows fully well that he can lose his temper, and he will do really bad things when he loses his temper.

It's. Just. One. Game. Good. Hell. Why is it such a huge deal??? The game will be rescheduled the following season. We're looking at one year off - one year. The football program had the better part of two years off, and that made things SO much better.

I just don't understand the angst. Everybody needs to just calm the f*** down.

1. There's no guarantee it's only one year. The game that was cancelled was the last of the contract. There is no new contract in place. I could see this going for a couple years.
2. I agree that having some time off is probably a good thing.
3. I wish sports talk radio would stop talking about it. I turned it of for the majority of the day.

PK's been a broken record since the original report came out. I couldn't listen anymore, turned it off days ago and only check in to see if they have moved on. I usually make it 5 minutes before realizing he is saying the same thing as 2 weeks ago.

So i haven't posted on here a while, just to get my thoughts out on the whole cancelling BYU thing -I agree people are really overreacting to it but I don't really like it. the whole bit about it being considered about safety for my players argument is just plain stupid. the chances of a player getting seriously injured in a college basketball game is very slim. the college basketball season is long and filled with so many games, it's not a big deal just play them. All I can figure is he just really hates them(he's really going to pay 80k out of his own pocket?! I still find that hard to believe).

As far as what's happening now i am very disappointed with the effort we gave against Oregon, leadership seems to be lacking. where is the fire?

Lmfao. This player for some team in BBall just purposely tripped the ref in their game @ Utah.

Hahaha. What an idiot. Guy is gonna get at least a game for that.

He was looking right at the ref too as he did it. Unbelievable.

Oh it was clearly intentional. He's on the ground staring directly at the ref because he wants a foul call. Red doesn't oblige and the ball starts to move down the court so the ref start to jog down the court. This kid extends his leg completely and trips the ref. Then he gets up to go down the court.

His *** should have been ejected.

Wait so teams other than byu do dirty stuff?
