What's new

Official UofU homer thread

Im proud of the utes for changing their minds and agreeing to play byu in basketball next year. Good job utah utes. (even though i was kind of looking forward to a break from the rivalry)

Let's not pretend.

The Utes were threatened by the Utah State Legislature. Not only sports funding but also academic funding was called into question if Utah didn't re-institute the rivalry.

The amount of hate and vitrol I feel for the BYU-fandom that is otherwise known as the Utah State Legislature cannot be overemphasized.

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Probably right. And i thought that the primary reason that the game was cancelled (Player safety) was a lie too. Evens out i guess. Game never really should have been cancelled in the first place.

Either way, im proud of the utes (this is me saying a good thing about my "rivals"... i wish more fans would do that) for doing the right thing, regardless of the reason.

BTW both my thoughts on why the game was cancelled and anyones else thoughts on why it was renewed are only opinions and speculations. All we know for certain is what was reported. Conspiracy theories are certainly in play though.

Honestly I would prefer that UTAH quit playing BYU in every sport indefinitely. I'm tired of Utah being the biggest thing BYU fans have to look forward to every year and thinking we should feel the same. I'm currently somewhere between apathy and annoyed with the "rivalry" and I'm just plain annoyed with BYU.

The utes are rarely the biggest thing I look forward to as a byu fan. Almost never are.

I wish byu would choose to no longer play the utes too

have you pleadingly repeated this enough that it's actually become true?

Its always been true. Im a person who likes to be happy, peaceful, and reasonable. I like interacting with happy, peaceful, and reasonable people as well.

When that game comes around i get stressed out, unhappy, unreasonable, argumentative, and never enjoy the game. Even way back in the day when byu used to win some times. I still hated it.
And im not the only one who changes. Everyone around me becomes more argumentative, and unreasonable and angry too. People who are normally nice to me and reasonable start to interact with me in a very similar way to the way you interact with me on jazz fanz. I hate the way you interact with me on jazz fanz. So i hate the game.
A few years ago i was at my wifes company party and there was a ute football game on tv. So i was watching the game with everyone and cheering for the utes and getting along with everyone and having a good time. People usually tend to get along with and like me (you being a rare exception) and that night was going no differently. It was a great time.
Then my wife casually mentioned that i was a byu fan, not knowing better. (I definately would not have mentioned it. I know better.) From that point on I was the outcast, ostracized person at the party. I was getting dirty looks and there was tons of tension in the air. It sucked.

That is what happens during rivalry week all over the place. I hate it.

Even in this current discussion i came into this thread and was trying to say something nice about the utes originally. Because its known im a byu fan my post was looked at in a negative way.
If lefty would have posted in this thread that he was proud of the utes for renewing the rivalry game then things would have went differently.

And now look where we are. You attacking my post about not looking forward to playing the utes and me defending it. I should have known better and never made my complimentary post about the u of u. I only have myself to blame.

Here's my opinion:

I don't mind playing BYU. We will beat them most of the time and BYU tears make me happy.

What bothers me is the unrelenting whining from BYU fans that led to this. BYU fans need to grow up (the whining ones). Get over it. You need to realize that Utah is moving onwards and upwards and no one knows what you are doing right now. Just accept that and move on. Quit whining about Utah and if Utah decided to play someone else, let it go.

Playing BYU really hurts our OOC schedule in football. BYU needs to realize that if Utah gets a better game for their "A" game, they will take it and put BYU to the side, because we can.

The game coming back is like the whining toddler in the grocery aisle that throws a fit until their mom buys them a toy. It's pathetic. Whining BYU fans should be ashamed. But instead, they are showing off their new toy with their tear streaked face while everyone around them rolls their eyes.

you realize that I've named you the JFCer I'd most like to hangout and watch a game with, right? And that I donated to your baby fund?

somewhere along the line I guess I didn't get the memo that you this sensitive. I'm sorry.

My sincere thanks for the donation and kind words and most of all for the apology. I am sensitive I guess.

Usually when I get a notification on my phone that naos has quoted my post I open it expecting to see some kind of criticism, insult, negativity, or condescending remark. My expectation is rarely wrong.

And I don't want you to think you can't ever disagree with me or criticize me or whatever. Maybe just mix in some positivity a little more often. And ****, I don't want to tell you how to post or try to censor you either. Idk, maybe I am too sensitive but it's just been wearing on me lately.

You're going to come in and tell me I'm wrong and all that, but this post right here is the exact thing that Ute fans used to say was wrong about BYU fan. It comes across as elitist, condescending, smug, and holier-than-thou. I guess when the tables turn, they all do.

the tables have never been turned like this, brough. Like, never. So there isn't a time or place where you can say BYU was in an equivalent position. Nice try, though.

So there was never a time when BYU dominated Utah? Good to know.

My point had nothing to do with conference affiliation. And you know that. You're just being an *** about it (your norm). My point was that for years and years Ute fans bitched relentlessly about the type of behavior BYU fans exhibited and that Ute fans are now exhibiting.
Most BYU fans I know recognize and acknowledge where we are in the scheme of things. We also recognize that Utah has become the better program. That's not what I'm saying. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of the behavior and attitude.

Ignoring the difference that the conference makes is like ignoring the elephant in the room. Making any "points" that are ignorant of this difference is ridiculous.

Also, it's funny to hear you talk about being an ***. The last time the me vs. trout argument got rebooted and the threads got bumped, it was hilarious to see what a bleeding stuck *** you were to me, and I don't think I've ever paid much attention to you.

In other words, keep whiffing, braugh.

I don't disagree at all. BYU had LaVell. Other than that, it's been a Utah world. And what BYU did with LaVell was incredible. But, those days were twenty years ago and Independance hasn't been kind to BYU.

Bigb - I am glad you said what you said. I'll try to not be that condescending jerk. It's hard when my brother in law is the worst stereotypical BYU fan and I come and vent here. Call me out when I'm a jerk.

Wow. What a nice post. Good on ya green.

Acting as though conference affiliation is the driving force in making a program is just ridiculous. Ask Iowa State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Illinois, Kansas, Oregon State, or Colorado. Their football programs are just outstanding. Can it help? Absolutely. Has it helped Utah? Undoubtedly. Does it change the fact that Ute fans acting like green did in that post are incredibly hypocritical? Nope. And that's my point. And big props to green for his response.

I'm not sure what thread you're referring to here, but that's neither here nor there. If I was an *** (and I fully acknowledge I am completely capable of being a major ***) then I apologize.

I think we all need to be reeled in from time to time, in all aspects of our lives.
