Official Utah Utes Football 2012 Thread

Also, people need to calm down calling the student section stupid.

It was a weird set of events.

A relatively small group of people rushed the field the first time when everyone thought the game was over. Coaches, and players were walking out shaking hands and the scoreboard said 0:00.

This created a weird circumstance where the students were already on the sidelines. Go look at the Burton block, people started rushing the field immediately, it's just that they had a longer distance to cover to get to the field because they were starting from the stands and not the sidelines.

It was technically the right call by the book, but ****ing retarded when taking into account ANY common sense, or when considering there was a bunch of people on byu's sidelines on the field right where the play was happening.

Either way, people need to stop bitching about having a bad *** over zealous student section. The student section and the NEZ help us win games.

This was a 1 in a million weird set of circumstances that will never happen again.

Again Ute fans showing they love to run smack which is nice but man do they struggle knowing the game and such.

A blocked field goal that remains in play behind the line of scrimmage is pretty much a fumble and fair game for both teams.

And it was the right call but a dumb one. Given 60-70 games a week in college football this call can probably be made 5ish times a week but never gets called.

What the hell did I say? You just repeated the same damn thing I said above.

You seriously need to step in front of an oncoming semi.

That's a tough loss to deal with, especially considering that you won't get another shot at Utah again for the better part of 3 years. Have fun replaying the last 2 games in your head while waiting for redemtion BYU fans.
Do you wake up stupid or do you take pills or something?

Awesome. Let them play Boise State. I'm done with BYU. This is no longer a good-natured rivalry, and it's not worth enough to the Utes to maintain it. We don't get anything good out of it. Doesn't help us get to the Rose Bowl, we're already selling the stadium out every single game anyway, BYU players like to actively try to injure our players (alligator roll) and BYU fans are the most hypersensitive people I know that are the furthest from reality ever... what's the point? Let it die. It's not worth the trouble. The only reason I like seeing Utah beat BYU so much is not because of the school rivalry, it's because the fans are such jerks. Let them assault some other coach's wife for a change.

I didnt know there was a problem with the dates. That would explain why so many people are confused.

I think we will end up playing next year, but here's to hoping that Chris Hill did the deal knowing that tds wouldn't be able to make it work.

My apologies for forgetting that Utah threw BYU a bone and re-upped for 2013. However, as has already been covered in the above posts, there are some problems with finding a date to actually play the game.

Count me in as somebody who wouldn't be sad if the game went away all together. I was already on the fence with it, but this last game cemented my opinion. I've seen enough of the high tackles, alligator rolls, etc. with BYU. It seemed like everytime a Utah ball carrier was taken down, there were hands around the ankles as players came up from the pile. Lavelle coached teams never played that way. As has already been said, it's also gone way past the point of a good natured rivalry. Add to the fact that Utah has owned the recent series and there just doesn't seem to be enough reward to playing the game unless it was a conference match up.

Cougar fans take the company line that Utah nixing BYU from their schedule is something that they are doing out of fear. Fact of the matter is, even if they are replacing BYU with teams like Tulsa, Utah is in the midst of looking for games that open up recruiting pipelines in areas that currently aren't that strong. BYU and Utah do not need to play each other in order for either of them to have strong in-state recruiting abilities. With it's new conference affiliation, Utah is trying to nationalize the program a bit more which means trying to get into states like Oklahoma, a bigger presence in Texas, etc.

Of course, to any rational person, that makes sense. Just don't ask BYU fan. It's simply because Utah is afraid to play a team that they've beat 8 out of 11 years.

I was with a bunch of rowdy drunk fans so I didn't always get to see all the replays or hear the TV so I didn't see some of what y'all are complaining about as far as the refs but a few of those PF's did upset me as I didn't see it. One I had a question on if it was just me was the INT that during the return a U player got a PF for a crushing block that you see all the time in fact in this very game a Y player had an even more crushing block when they had that big punt return. Anybody else remember this or was it just me.

Also I think I heard the refs were Big 12 refs, not sure what that really means or matters, unless you want to go all conspiracy and say they wanted to make there future team look better. *this is tongue in cheek*

I didn't know about the scheduling conflict and was wondering how and why nobody knew they had an agreement in 2013. I wanted them to play it but heck if the fans didn't know I'm worried about the players pulling a no show next year.

For the record I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst with the way they played last week and with the injuries mentioned, starting the back up QB (even if it was more of a plus then a minus), back up RB, minus two starting safeties out and people may have forgotten about Keith McGill also was injured (in spring ball) so that would be the 3 best safeties the Utes had planned on having for the season all out.

I'm not positive but pretty sure that ball can not be advanced by the kicking team unless it is touched again by a Ute player. Ute players were running from the ball so as not to touch it. Once the BYU player touched the ball the play should have been blown dead. The fans had 0 impact on any of that.

The Refs missed a # of intentional PF's by #9 on BYU. That guy should have been flagged 4 times and thrown out when he alligator rolled Hayes' legs attempting to injure him. I wish him nothing but a career ending injury in his next game.

If the ball is blocked and does not cross the line of scrimmage, it can be advanced by the kicking team. So basically it should not have been blown dead as you think... but the refs did get it right. The fans did enter the field in a live ball situation. I actually think the refs did a really good job, especially with all that was going on in this game.

I saw the alligator roll, and it was pretty cheap. Players that do that should be ejected. I did not see multiple issues with the same player, but I did see cheap stuff by both teams. It was not a one way street, but whoever did that leg twist stood out as a punk. You do not intentionally try to hurt people, that's messed up.
