Offseason Random Twitter Comments about Jazz Players

Jefferson has the capability be one of the best PF/Cs in the league. He has an ability to draw a double or even triple team that Sap does not possess. Which makes the fact that he doesn't have more assists look even worse in my mind. There is no reason he can't find the open cutter/shooter, but most of the time he doesn't even try.

I don't understand how he doesn't get the concept that if he passes out of the double teams and punishes the other team for doubling him (by hitting the open player for easy points) the other teams will be forced to guard him one on one, where he can generally score at will. It seems like such an easy concept that many great players have understood. Malone's passing ability was one of the reasons he was so good. Hell, even Shaq, the most dominant center ever knew to pass out of double/triple coverage.

I think he gets the concept just fine. Then when you are in the moment and your whole life you have been the man and not in a system with those shooters you default to being "the man". It is so ingrained in him now that he has to fight that tendancy. He has gotten better but not even close to what I'd like him to be.

teams double/triple paul, too, just not as much. and part of the reason they pressure al more is because every scouting report in the NBA says he does not respond well to that kind of pressure. "commands a double team" isn't always a compliment; sometimes it's just code for "invites a double team by continually making bad decisions when trapped."

When does Paul get doubled and tripled? It very rare.

Al's scoring ability in the post is a much larger threat on offense than Sap's. Sap may get doubled on a drive or something, but Sap doesn't get double teams nearly as often. And yes, part of the reason Al gets double is he doesn't pass out. Which is my point. It is disgusting that he doesn't pass out. How much better would he and the Jazz be if teams were punished for doubling him?

Al's footwork on the post is amazing, he can score (even over double teams) in the post very well. In single coverage he is tough to stop. So yes, part of the reason he is doubled is b/c he doesn't pass, but another big part of it is he is a very good post player. But even if he was a good passer, I still think teams would bring double teams at him to try and slow him down.

i will give you that al is an elite low post scorer with an impressive repertoire of moves from the left low block.

i just wish his decision-making, passing and defense were all better... or, alternatively, that he'd take fewer shots so we could get paul and favors more involved in the offense.

I think we are both on the same page. And the sad part is, when he wants to pass, he is a good passer. I think Ty should ram the idea of passing out of doubles down his throat, and bench him if he doesn't.

Or, just bring him off the bench when the best defenders aren't out there and not bank on the idea that he'll suddenly get better at something after 8 years. eh?

I don't think a coach has ever pulled him for not passing, and it needs to happen.

I'm not exactly saying you're wrong, but you know you're at the end of your rope with a player when you lean on what coaching has (allegedly) never done for him. Naw, who am I kidding... you're wrong.

Has it ever been made an emphasis to him? It today's game many teams baby their players and don't hold the accountable. I think that would be the hardest part of coaching with today's entitled players.
I don't care if you bench him, polish his ego, etc. This team SHOULD be at the end of their rope with him if he can't adjust his game. Something needs to be done to get him to pass out of double teams. If he doesn't he takes away the whole flow of the offense. If he won't change, trade him.

There is the Cy we all know and love.

Sorry stoked and NAOS, gotta side with my boy Cy here. His 'black-hole' reputation is being completely blown out of proportion. He has kicked it out respectively, especially in contrast to previous seasons. I understand complaints about his defense, but passing? He doesn't need to average 4APG for us to be a contender. Yes, Millsap is the better passer. So? I personally am perfectly fine with Al's assist totals, and passing skills. What I am NOT okay with is how many possessions he gets per game. But guess what?

A) that's on Ty Corbin, not Al
B) Al has proven that he is perfectly fine with other players receiving possessions that he normally would get, even to the extent where he voluntarily told Ty to draw up a play for Sap in our game against OKC last season.

People who complain about how one-dimensional our offense is should be complaining about the coaching staff, not the player

I feel perfectly OK complaining about less than 4 assists a game (regardless of any precedent at the position) when a player gets that many possessions that early in the clock. That's a combination of players and coaches.

How many centers average 4 APG again? Also, who could we replace al with at the 5 that would result in better passing from your big man?

Cyrone-I agree, he is a good passer, he knows how to do it. He just doesn't do it.

I want the ball in Hayward and Millsap's hands more. Put Favors at the 5 for defense and second-option scoring. I guarantee an increase in quality assists if Al's touches go to GTime and Pimpslap.
