Open Carry?

I think it might be the gun Rick has in TWD, except mine holds 7 rounds.

if i'm not mistaken ricks is a regular 357.
the advantage of 357 magnum vs regular 357's is when for example a predator runs up to you with a knife from close range and yous hoot him with 9mm, .38, or 357, which lack stopping power, he will continue to move forward with the knife potentially injuring you, unless you hit him on the right spots of the body(eg spinal cord).
so thats why i prefer guns with stopping power.
another option is (again hooting my own horn here) a gun without stopping power but know the right moves(eg krav maga :)). drawing the gun and shooting while you do blocking moves.

still i'd rather have a double safety, the right defensive moves and the stopping power of the gun so if one fails me the other is there as a failsafe.
sadly this is for revolvers.
glock has 357 sigs. with less stopping power but it's a trade in for moar bullets :D

When you say you want a Glock that shoots 357 you're talking about .357 SIG, right? not .357 mag? I've heard .357 SIG often has feeding problems because of it's bottleneck shape.
yeah 357 sig. and from what I know is that the feeding issue has been mostly resolved.

He's full of it. They don't allow guns in his village.
they dont allow guns in the netherlands.
or atleast it's pretty hard to get one. and if you use it on a burglar even shooting him the leg you will have to be very carefull to not drop the soap in the future.

if you manage to get a gun. you'll need to safes in your house 1 for the amo and 1 for the gun(must be x meters apart. so if you manage to hoot an intruder you'll have to explain how you combined ammo and weapon so fast cops can come in and check anytime. it's just frickin ridiculous these laws.

anyway back home in my "village" in south america guns are legal. we have something similar tot he castle law

What if a meteor hits your doghouse. Then what are you going to do?

Just resonably prepare which to me would include an alarm system on a home I bought. An inside dog, a fenced yard and a firearm where I can quickly and quietly get to it. trim bushes so that windows are visible and not covered...common sense things go a long, long way

inside dogs are "*******"(as in pussycat). anywho from personal experience dog's arent really that good of a defense

That is just stupid. In my family all dogs are inside dogs. For example the 90 lb great dane/black lab mix my father has. You come in that house thru any opening and he is right there.

Got to second this. We have a lab/sheppard mix that is an inside dog and nothing happens in the house without him being right there. In fact it gets frustrating when we have to shut him the back bedroom whenever someone comes to the door because he won't shut up.

The other side of that is having children too young to trust around a guard dog. I'd take my chances with the burglars before leaving my children to the whims of an animal on a nightly basis.

I do not want a guard dog. I want a dog. Almost any dog will start barking and warn you. My dad has a chihuahua as well and you cannot get within 15 feet of the house before it starts yapping. I would never expect my dogs to attack as that is not why we have them. We have them because we love dogs. I do expect them to at least give me a heads up if someone is approaching my home.

Edit: As for the yound children i agree. that is why I get dogs like pugs, labs, golden retrievers...child friendly dogs. I do not want a pittbull, rot...

"regular" .357? I thought those were called .38s?

so if hee warns you you run up to him with your bare hands?

If you ask 5 gun salesmen about stopping power for .38 special JHP or 9mm JHP, you will get 5 different answers and explanations. Most people concede that .38 auto doesn't have the stopping power needed.

Real stopping power lies with rifles and shotguns. A pistol is just a underpowered rifle.

And in the end, using pretty much any handgun above a .32acp, shot placement is going to make much more of a difference than stopping power most of the time.

S&W 500 can blow the *** hole out of a water buffalo. It has 7x more stopping power than Dutch's girly .357 mag. Shoot a guy in the toe and it'll still blow his entire foot off.

Watch the Manswers video.

You may have me confused with someone else. I am a gun owner. If he starts barking at 2 AM I am going to reach into the safe at bedside and grab my gun. Then have a silent look around. All I am saying is that a dog has its place(a rather good one imo) in a home defense system.

This. If I have to shoot someone (hopefully this is NEVER the case) I am going for a kill. 2 in the chest and 1 in the head.

what stopping power are we talking about here. we are talking about stopping an average built guy right? (not a shaq type guy)
now avg might vary on where you are from i agree. dont know the avg from utah. but where i'm from it kinda stops the avg guy.

don't get me wrong i love dogs had them all my life, but not as a place in home defense

******** you say. If an intruder is trying to get into your house they want to do so as quietly and unnoticed as possible. The second that large dog starts barking they have lost the element of stealth and surprise. They also don't know what type of dog they are facing. Unless they have targeted you specifically for a very specific reason chances are very high that the intruder stops and goes elsewhere. No sense risking getting bit, having the cops called or at worst, getting shot because the homeowner has been alerted.
