Nope - the incoming player(s) salary have to fit within the TPE.I know when you trade players it has to be within 50%, so if you trade a 10 million player you can get a 15 million. Don't know if that is the same with TPE?
Well we haven't heard the Cavs owner wine in a week for two. That would be crazy if we could get Rondo for a TPE. We would almost certainly have to trade Harris off to someone then.
A warm spot in the West would someone like Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, Lakers, Clippers, Hornets, and Grizzlies. Don't think SLC qualifies as war
Well we haven't heard the Cavs owner wine in a week for two.
Rondo for the trade exception might be enough to set him off forcing Stern to stop the trade causing WW3. on Jazzfanz... LOL

More appropriate would be lists of any of the following:
1. Players of value who can be had for <4 million (the Jazz's current cushion under the luxury tax).
2. Players of value who will be available for up to $10.5 million at the end of this season
Agree. The financial implications of "going shopping" and using the TPE this season are enormous. If jazz get themselves back into luxury tax territory again, they not only pay the $ for $ penalty, but they miss out on the $ reward for being under. Of course, if a deal is sweet enough, I think Greg and KOC would jump on it. Maybe we do get a high pick for helping a team shed salary. Wasn't it Houston that got a ton of picks from NY for giving them an expiring (thus allowing the Knicks to go FA shopping and land Amare)? Or perhaps it's a trade involving us getting a great player AND taking on a bad contract in exchange for say Millsap + the TPE.
What I do know is that we'll likely hear nothing until it happens. It's just amazing how KOC is able to keep deals so quiet when so many other organizations have huge leaks and rumors start flying days or even weeks before a deal eventually goes down.
Oh; my bad then. Spend away, KOC!We're now like 14 million under the LT. We're not going over no matter what happens.

Unless something has changed, there's no flexibility in salary matching. The salary absorbed is either smaller than the TPE, or it's not absorbed.
In short, no (unless, again, something has changed).

The Cavs owner probably called up--or texted or emailed--Greg Miller to congratulate him (since it's a partial win for a "little guy") ...He wouldn't waste his time. His thought would be, "Its only the Jazz."
I know that they probably won't go for it, but it would be awesome to trade for Steph Curry. They still have that conflict of Curry/Ellis, and we could trade Jefferson (they need a good low-post scorer) and the maybe the TPE for him. We get our PG and outside shooting threat.
With a TPE though, the acquired player's salary must be less than the TPE. You can't do those same calculations for TPE's.In the previous CBA, there was a 25% flexibility for any team over the cap (teams under the cap could trade for any disperity, up to the level of the cap). Under the new CBA, it's 50% for those under the tax level and 25% above the tax level.
