What's new

Quit whining, and just let Al Jefferson's contract play it's course??

Please. The guy is 26, came of a serious injury, has been traded into two terrible situations, and is still willing to do anything coach asks of him. Expecting him to return to pre-injury foul stats with his veteran experience and an improved supporting cast is nowhere near irrational. It's four or five percentage points.

That's probably the way to go if you want a 3-5 year horizon. If the Jazz want to build a WCF+ team then trading Kanter and draft picks is the route.

And?

What was wrong with the 2009/10 team? Height against LA Lakers huge lineup. Favors and size at the 3 solves that.
What was wrong with the 2011 team? Memo broke down and KOC let the 3 point shooting and Brewer's offensive specialties walk. CJ, Raja, and an oft injured AK were the guys clanking wide open setups from Deron. What pissed Williams off the most was Miller's lack of deep enough pockets to retain shooters. That was a tough model to run with zero competence at the 2 and 3. Again, Favors size upgrade over Millsap pastes over a lot of these issues. Solidify these two wing positions and Jefferson is more than competent in a very well rounded team.

rep'd like a baus

Sap is the odd man out unless he's willing to come off the bench. We have a 2 and a 3 that are longer/bigger than sap and a two 5's and a 4 that are longer/bigger than sap.

The question then has to be asked, does favors or sap start? If AJ is moved, is favors at the 5? Are we better with Favors/Sap or AJ/Favors? If AJ is moved, is Enes ready to start at the 5 since Favors will be at the 4? Is Sap willing to come off the bench?

You're thinking too hard.

Anyone that doubts that Millsap is a real NBA player that isn't a sieve needs to seriously start over.
Favors would start at the 5
Kanter's not ready to start

It is not complicated. Put your tape measure away and watch some ****ing basketball for Christ's sake.

Right. 23/11/2.6/2 on 54% just screams of perfect vision though. I mean, Big Al hasn't ever shot higher than 52.8%, which was in his rookie year mind you, and hasn't shot higher than 50% since 06/07 but yet 54% seems highly plausible to you. Even though he's basically never approached that and shows no signs of progress in that area. Give me a break bro. I have the potential to take ****s of gold. But it ain't happening.

You seem a little obsessed with taking ****s...... just sayin.

Agreed here.
Millsap is a complete NBA player, and I don't think he's even reached his ceiling offensively.
Plenty of NBA players have become quite successful without having significant length.

Fixed.

Deron lashing out at Sloan suggests that lack of deep pockets was not necessary D-Will's #1 concern.

I think I would trade Al in a deal that brought back Rudy Gay. I'm not sure why Gay is rumored to be on the trading block, tbh. He looks like the closest thing to a Lebron/Durant-level talent without being Lebron or Durant.

Here are some Rudy Gay highlights (you'll want to mute the audio - the song is lousy):

Yes now we're talking.

Put Favors at C - let him run rings around other team's C's. Let him do those put back dunks near the rim. Let him finish off alley hoops from Mo. Let him block shots near that rim. Let him do all that BEASTLY stuff at the C spot. Don't let him run around stretch 4's and getting fouled chasing them around.

Put Favors at C, put Millsap at PF (resign him at $10m - a bargain at that price).

And the best part? Let Kanter come off the bench as the 3rd big. He'll provide that bench scoring in the middle (he'll man handle most back up C's IMO) and he'll also be a defensive force in the middle as well.

Surround these guys with shooters and we're away. Championships here we come!!!!!

The bottom line here is do you believe in your two #3s or not. If you do you have to trade either Sap or Al because it's getting to the point where not only are those two vets not a good fit together but the young guys are going to start to feel held back, particularly Favors.

It really doesn't matter if you are a fan of Al (or Millsap) or hate him. Even if you believe like I do that he will continue to improve it's obvious that the young bigs are improving at a faster rate and one of them is very close to catching him, or has already overtaken him, in overall effectiveness. There just is not room for 4 guys competing for starter minutes.

One of the two between Al and Sap must be traded by the deadline at the very latest. We can stash Kanter a little longer on slim minutes but Favors is ready. What I'd like is to bring in an older player like Tim Thomas was for the Bulls. Camby would be nice, a guy that shouldn't need minutes and can help with fundamentals in practice along with being a guy that should be able to play some if we need him.

I love this post. I think O'Connor will trade the one that nets the highest trade value, Millsap. Unless, of course, he trades the player which will cost more to keep around long term, Jefferson. Either way, my prediction is accurate.
