Report: Bynum for Jefferson?

ESPN la reported the gasol for Bynum trade was done, then said it was not. Apparently la wants a pick or young player in return for gasol.
 
reports saying that a Jefferson trade is much more possible if the Gasol trade doesn't happen. the trade must be made today because it takes 2 days to clear a player for a team, this would allow Bynum to be cut.

In what sense? Right now, where he's aiding in bad wins? Or in the future, where the Jazz would have to sign him out of free agency whether he gets traded or not?

In any case, is that even accurate? How can they trade Marv for 15.5M? I thought you couldn't combine a trade exception WITH a player (which is where I'm assuming they get the $15.5M number) as the same trade? I guess they could trade a pick+trade exception for a player and then trade Marvin for another player of equal salary, but they can't take ONE salary of up to $15.5M, right? It would have to be two separate players making ~$8M or less each?

I'm sure somebody already answered this, but the Jazz would be under the cap and hence wouldn't have to salary match for the money that they're under the cap. This isn't about a trade exception.
 
Woj is reporting that the deal Utah would get is Jefferson for Bynum and a second round pick. If Dennis can turn Jefferson into a second round pick, he is some kinda somethin. Awesome.

Whoa, WOJ? That's some kind of legit. And yes, that would be awesome.

That cap space could possibly net them another asset, too. I need to run some numbers on that, though.

I think if the la deal deal does not happen, then this will happen. The jazz have a lot of flexibility though, with Marvin, rush and to a lesser extent biedrins to send out as expiring contracts on trade for assets.

Cleveland would be complete morons to send a real asset in the trade for an expiring contract. I don't think that deal happens, personally.

I really hope the Jazz deal does, though.

No I was just saying in a future deal. Really for any of those guys, maybe aside from Marvin, we can only expect a second round pick at most.

I would say even Marvin. Unless you're a contender (or even a pretender), sending assets (even small ones) to a team for an expiring UFA is just plain stupid. Hopefully there are some stupid teams out there.

I guess I kind of skimmed past this part. I'm not terribly interested in trading for future cap burden as I'm not sure who on earth would be available (first and foremost), worth that money, not help the Jazz now, be young enough, and be under contract long enough for the Jazz to get this thing cooking enough to keep them around.

But yeah, explore all of your options. As far as I'm concerned, focus on increasing your lottery chances, then let the cake ****ing bake.

This is Cleveland we're talking about. If I were them, I'd just waive Bynum and consider it a lesson learned, unless they really value Gasol. But then again, I'm not them. They are them and I'm grateful for that.
 
Jefferson is expiring so its a short term asset for Cleveland. Gives them some flexibility and options.
 
I was just at Best Buy off of 21st S. and saw Jefferson buying some Savage Garden CD's. Asked him what was up, he shrugged and said 'I'm outta' this bitch.'

You decide what that means.
