Rubio traded to Jazz

He is joking that this deal spells the end of Hayward. In reality it would only be 29.5 million, as that would be Hayward's amount in the first year of his max (I believe).
I see. So he is full of ****

The Rubio trade also signals that the Jazz want to match offers for Joe Ingles. This might help dissuade other teams from making offers to Ingles and soften his market a little, imo.

I think I'm a lot lower on Joe Ingles than other people must be. If it means keeping Hayward, then do it, but otherwise I don't like the idea of spending a ton of money to retain him.

Then 70% of your cap is dedicated to Hill, Gobert, and Hayward, and Hill is the weak link of those three and there's a clear ceiling that's got Chris Paul painted on it.

This moves allows flexibility. I'm not enthusiastic about Hayward on a max deal, since it's a lesser value than most players on a max deal, but that's a better option with a guaranteed player to be on the roster, as opposed to Hill, and a player that will up Hayward's PPG and ranks highly on analytics.

It at least pretty much guarantees (maybe?) we retain Hayward. Now I think Hayward walks.

Nah. Hayward stays. I bet DL got rubio feeling confident that Hayward stays.

Do you just give Lindsey no credit at all? If he thought this was the difference in Hayward walking then he wouldn't do it.

He'd do it if:
Hayward was more or less indifferent.
Hayward was gone anyway
Hayward demanded Hill, and Hill demanded an insane contract

I think Hayward is a lot smarter than people give him credit for. Making a decision because the Jazz went and acquired a 26-year, cheaper Rubio over an aging George Hill that had trouble seeing the court last year is not the type of thing I could see being a reason Hayward would walk.

Why? Hayward liked Hill because he was competent (look at all the other PGs Hayward has played with). There's no indication it's the social aspect. Hill's a FA and not guaranteed to stay regardless of what Hayward does (and more importantly, vice-versa), so that left the Jazz very vulnerable to free agent timing.

Ok, I've watched some Rubio highlights and I'm now in optimism mode.

This guy is only 26. This is an insane get by DL, especially for what we gave up.

It's frustrating the narrative of "Hayward walking cause we didn't pay Hill." DL made a great acquisition to better the team, all aspects considered.

What were the packages people were throwing around on here to acquire Rubio? I'm sure they weren't just the OKC pick.
