I don't see it.I'm just baffled teams are said to want to throw max level money at him.
Yes, sort of. The danger is that it could backfire--if a team like Portland KNOWS the Jazz will match, then they could make a ridiculous offer because there's no chance they'd get stuck with Hayward for that price.
Agreed 12 Mil and thats generous/overpaying, if he says no sign Deng he can be had for less and be a good mentor for Hood12 mil
Coming from the same organization who thought they had made it too expensive for Utah to match Millsap's deal (huge signing bonus) and made that unprecedented offer to Matthews (bigger payout than even the #1 pick). You have to realize that Batum was signed to an offer sheet by Minnesota and overpaid thinking Portland would n't match but Portland matched but were upset with Minnesota because they thought the T-Wolves gave a ridiculous offer.
Phoenix need to see what Hayward does before deciding on Lebron & Mellow
Anyway, how long is the RFA period... in other words, when will we know one way or another on Hayward ?
Deng won't sign here. We aren't a contender. We would have to way overpay for him to think about it.

If the Jazz are planning to keep Hayward, Burks and Kanter, they won't have cap space no matter what Hayward gets.
True.Deng is injury prone and it's only going to get worse (see AK). It's getting old to see every player think that he deserves to play for a ready made contender rather than trying to be part of creating a contender. So annoying.
What's a mini max?
They probably shouldn't let him go for nothing. 4 year contracts with 4.5% raises aren't killers. If the Jazz don't have the opportunity to sign anyone better this offseason, and they can't find a decent S&T, they should match just about any offer. What do you believe the Jazz should do?

That explanation helps a bit, although it's not completely accurate. There are several different max amounts players can get based on service time, yes, but there are other considerations. Several players coming off rookie-scale contracts have been eligible for the same max amount as 9-year vets, for example. It's what players who have not been in the league long enough to get the full max get. Like Gordon Hayward can't get the same salary as a vet like lebron

Gordo is eligible for the 0-6 year max, which starts at a bit less than 25% of the cap.
It's a gas station ran by an Indian. What's a mini max?
Oof.so he won't be getting the full max.
