Rumor: Jazz prepared to match 'any offer' for Hayward.

Best case scenario is the Jazz working a sign-and-trade. Gordo isn't worth more than $9mm on a team with top talent. No way in hell I'd match a max contract.

Best case scenario is that Gordon doesn't get offered anywhere near a max contract. (As I said in another post, I'll only believe he's going to get a max contract if/when it happens.)

How can you not be excited of the prospect of the jazz without Hayward?

Unleash Burks. Give Hood and Exum tons of burn. Let Burke play pg, not Hayward.

Agreed...Burke, Exum, Burks, Hood, Neto?, and an extra $15 mil/year to spend. We are not in a horrible position.
At times the market demands you overpay A BIT for a roleplayer, or even ALOT for a franchise player, but to overpay significantly for a roleplayer is ridiculous.

Relax.

According to CLE sports reporter @JohnTelich8, the Cavs are not offering Hayward a max contract.

Told by Cavs source details reported about meeting with Jazz free agent Gordon Hawyard have been "greatly exaggerated."

Cleveland sportscaster @JohnTelich8 said his sources claim "Cavs making max offer to Hayward is fantasy." Some interest but no decision yet.

And they were still able to move that deal for multiple first round picks while making playoff runs during his tenure. How bad of a deal was it...
1. Joe Johnson >> Gordo

2. They got scraps, the #18 pick in a ****ty draft (Shane Larkin) and a 2017 2nd round pick.

3. The Hawks had only 1 50-win season, and were never contenders.

So maybe this whole Cleveland max stuff was leaked by DL, so when he signs Hayward for $14 M per, we'll all think it was a steal and DL is brilliant!

I don't think matching a max deal for Gordon damages the jazz nearly as much as not matching a max offer damages the Jazz.

What is the downside of not matching?

lets say with hayward we win 35 games next year.

Now lets say we dont have hayward and instead trevor ariza, and marvin get all the minutes hayward would have got.
How would the win total be affected? A game or two?

is 33 wins vs 35 worth 60 something million dollars and restricting what we can do in the future?

Nah, his contract would be mentioned on here literally every time he missed a shot or made any bad play over the next few years.

£¥£
Yup

If you believe Hayward is just a role player, then you don't match the offer.
If you believe he hasn't tapped his full potential (as Cleveland does), then you let him work with a great player development coach in Quin Snyder and realize what a lousy *** coach Corbin really was.

I think the Jazz should pay Hayward the max to apologize for making him play under Corbin. It is the least they can do.

I agree 100% - the other thing we have to look at is how the team has been built so far (and the guys we've been interested in). We have a wing lineup that is multi-positional (Gordon SG/SF, Exum, SG/PG, Burks SG/PG, Hood, SF/SG, etc.) and potential a 3 man starting lineup (Trey, Exum, Hayward) that can all distribute to a very high degree (5+ assists per). If this new "Motion Offense" is meant to function on ball movement, you also risk losing one of the best guys to fit the mold you would want at the SF spot.

^^
Especially if the Jazz run an up-tempo offense. That's Gordon's strength, not the coma-inducing system Corbin favored.
