Shelvin Mack Option Picked Up

I like Mack
He's managed to stay in league for 5 years now
He started games last year and Jazz have won with him.

Honestly it makes sense to keep him and Neto. Neto is too young to trade, he showed enough last year. Might be kind of salty for him to play for the Stars all of next year, but oh well. He is long term, Mack isn't. At the same time, Mack is better right now.

Neto is 2 years younger..... We weren't looking at a 20 year old last year playing his first minutes of professional basketball.

You keep both. If some great trades comes along for either you trade them. Until then you keep both. If we sign Hill, it makes no sense to keep Mack. If we lose Hill then you still want to keep both.

Mack played well for us last season. There were plenty of games where he outplayed the other starting PG. To have Mack behind Exum and Hill is a luxury. Having depth is a beautiful thing. Crap like Lucas III seems so long ago....

I've said all along that both Neto and Mack should stay. Hill, Exum, and Mack have positional flexibility. Pleiss should be cut before either of them.

I can't wait for the next time you lobby for a player because he's younger. Should happen any day.

When you're comparing a 26 year old to a 24 year old, age kind of stops being a factor. I could see it if they were about even statistically, but numbers-wise Mack has Neto pretty significantly beat in scoring, rebounding, passing, and turnovers.

that wasn't my point.

(but even if it was, I think it's fair to say a 24-year old with one year of experience can be graded differently than a 26-year old with several.)

PG: Hill, Exum, Mack
SG: Hood, Burks, Johnson
SF: Hayward, Ingles
PF: Favors, Lyles
C: Gobert, Diaw

Inactive/Idaho:
Neto
Withey
Pleiss

...or something of the sort.

Did I miss anything? If not, that's a pretty strong top 12. Health permitting, it doesn't look like we'll be giving anyone (Ingles, Neto, Withey) substantial minutes on a consistent basis.

Neto has been a professional basketball player for 6 years. It's not like this was his first year treating basketball as a full-time job. I know being in the NBA will help him improve more (NBA conditioning programs and staff > ACB) but still.

Do you mean Chris Johnson or Joe Johnson?

Joe Johnson will be 2nd SF in front of Ingles.

Not really. Neto's had several years of professional experience already.

Being in the NBA is a step up and I'm sure there's some improvement ahead for him, but it's not likely to be substantial.

Good decision by the FO. Mack balled last year. Neto played well too given the circumstances. Keep both and see what happens in regards to Dante's recovery and Hill's FA next off season. If you eventually have to move one you have a valuable trade piece.

I didn't realize that Neto was 24 years old. Oh well, point still stands for the most part, which is keep them both

How you explain the fact that he improved his 3 point shot after few months he came in Nba? Suprising, you don't think so?

Diminished role in the NBA compared to his former team = more focus on spot up shooting. It's one of the reason I have hope for him as a good backup though. He still has to get better with his the speed of his shot and being able to hit a pull up, but he has shooting potential if he works on it.
