What's new

Should a business be allowed to discrimate on the basis of a customer's sexual orientation?

if the government forced me to bake a cake it would be the best gay wedding cake ever. /sarcasm
good thing those guys are christians.
trust me you would not wanna eat a wedding cake the government forced me to bake.

by all means send them to me. will bake them a cake
Reading between the lines here...... Is dutch talking about killing gay people by baking them a poison cake.

Seems a bit over the top

I would respond this way:

Finally, just to clear things up, can you answer two questions and one follow-up question?

1. Are you white?
2. Have you ever been the victim of systematic discrimination?
2a. If Yes, can you please explain?

Can I answer?
1. Yes.
2. Yes, all my trips to the countries, where most of the people are dark colored. Only in Japan i felt like a normal person.
3. India, Vietnam - you are treated like walking wallet. In China - every local wanted to have a photo with me. I think that can be considered as a positive racism :-). However, no issues in Japan. I have not been in real Africa (i think Sharm el Sheik does not count), but i think the situation would be even worse in Soweto and similar places.

I don't consider wanting to have photo taken with you, being treated like a walking wallet examples of systematic discrimination. Here I'm talking about being object of hate or animus, both in word and action, being denied equal access to services, living within a system with rules (both formal and informal) designed to marginalize you, being called hurtful names by strangers, etc. etc., all of which you live with on a daily basis over long periods of time.

Being a stranger in a strange land as a tourist or on business TDY doesn't count, IMHO.

so who decides which of those cake texts(or t-shirt texts) is offensive. cake or t-shirt same ****

for example in today world people might find this cake offensive
Its_a_Boy_Blue_Cake.jpg

it "assumes" gender maybe that boy is transsgender. it is imposing a "socail construct of gender" on a person because he or she or it has a penis.

i put some cakes i consider offensive. funny and normal in it. but even a cake i consider normal like the "it's a boy cake" could be considered offensive to the lbgtq+community.

simpel if i go to a shop and it is a lbgtq+ owned shop and they dont want to make me a "it's a boy cake" is say ok have a nice day and take my business elsewehere.

forcing the queer guy to bake an "its a boy cake" is WRONG

edit: lots more offensive cakes out there. but i think these get through the mod filter

So celebrating Nazis, terrorists, and "****" is the same as a gay wedding? WTH dutch!?

anyhow, I think I'm going to merge this thread with the earlier thread from several months ago where this issue was first discussed.

no just saying a gay wedding cake might be offensive to some. just like maybe a "its a boy cake"
whod ecides whats offensive and what you may deny.

trust me to some a gay wedding cake is way more offensive then a nazi cake.
so who decide.
and i thought all wedding cakes where custom made.

well mock me all you want.

but this is not right!
why the **** do they need bakery a to give them a wedding cake while there are millions of others who would do it.
this is about forcing their lifestyle choice down people throats. it is no worse then ISIS!

Same reason I troll you... because you react so poorly to something so simple.

Really, it shouldn't have come to this. But It likely only came to this because the organization treated them so poorly.

1. The photo thing with chinese kids was actually a pretty cool "racism" thing. :-). I have never felt so popular in my life, felt like a celebrity.
2. So are you saying that i would survive just fine in everyday life in places like suburbs in the movie Training Day or in suburbs in Detroit? I have never been in USA, but i think (having prejudice, of course), that it would be pretty difficult. However, chinatowns in big cities seem to be rather nice places to live.

Why I am saying is that were you to suffer structural and systematic discrimination and/or be the subject of prevalent hate/animus on a routine basis, I suspect you're perspective on these sorts of issues would change.

And, until you are (or until you are willing to engage in a sincere effort to empathize with those who are), you cannot presume to understand what it's like, nor how it would shape how you see the world and think about things.

Acceptance and tolerance have "boundaries".....and decency is the boundary! Thus, the answer to your question is yes....along with visible jailhouse tats!

....actually, I thought we were talking about "hiring" someone as an employee. I suspect most business would take the money of anyone....as long as it was "green" and not counterfeit!

Habitual drunkards who recklessly endanger the life of innocent people....

You forget habitual eaters, texters, drowsy drivers, parents with kids misbehaving, drivers with pets in their laps, people drinking non alcoholic drinks while in their process of driving, people doing their make up, people shaving, etc, etc, etc

At least drunk drivers usually don't drink while they are driving and are often worried about getting pulled over so they focus on driving as good as possible and obeying traffic laws.

Drowsy, eating, texting, phone talking, kid taking care of, make-up putting on, coffee drinking, pet on the lap people do these things while in the process of driving and don't pay attention to the road.
Also the majority of drunk drivers drive drunk very late at night/early morning when there is less traffic.

Kill em all I say.
In fact, every accident has someone at fault so every accident should result in the at fault persons death
