Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

The inefficient scoring is whatever, but obviously still not a great sign. My biggest ongoing concern with Cody is that he doesn’t do much else besides score on the court. He’s considered a well rounded and versatile player but he’s really pushing the “master of none” thing to concerning levels. 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and zero stocks in 28 minutes reinforces the low motor concerns for me.

I think it was great to see him get 18 shots off. He was touching the ball on offense most possessions. That's what he is there for.

I agree that him not filling up the box score is concerning. You would hope him being the superior athlete would lead to some of that. From watching the game I can tell you he did not look comfortable in his defensive role. Hopefully once he gets used to it the stocks will come.

I think Cody totally slacked off on the defensive side. He didn't challenge shots at the rim, and he probably didn't intend to. The whole spirit of the Gleague seems to be about guys going through the motions and developing themselves. No one really cares about wins or losses.

As for his overall physicality, that's not going to come until he adds strength (if he does). That's what I'm worried about.

Cody hit a runner and a FT so far. Airmailed a 3ball. Looks comfortable handling and turning the corner.
He's missed a couple shots near the rim and isn't handling contact well...which isn't a surprise.
Avoids contact and settles for an 18-ft jumper, which he hits.

What a riveting half of GLeague hoops. If you count Cody's FT, he has more makes than airballs so I'd say it was a good half.

I actually don't think Cody's lack of physicality is his biggest issue (at the GLeague level). He has negative handle and wiggle which means he can't get by his man. Ironically, he's had the most success with little Jordan pushoffs because he's unable to drive past the defender.

Cody is actively avoiding contact on both ends. Not sure if that's a plan, or what. He's being anti-aggressive when it comes to being physical inside.

Cody is 3/6 on floaters and runners. It seems to be his preferred shot. He's 0-3 on 3PAs. All his points are from floaters and FTs.

I thought Cody stunk tonight. Another Stars player that was dreadful was Davy Jones. -35 in the box. Give his two way deal to Tavion Kinsey. If this were the playground to keep the court Cody would be one of the last players picked at the moment.

The problem with Cody right now is that there's no physicality. No burst. If he doesn't put serious work in on his body, he's going to drift around and likely fade out of the league.

He's in danger of becoming a Ziaire Williams or KZ Okpala.

Cody was honestly only successful by using physicality. Most of his buckets came from using little Jordan pushoffs and getting away with it. Most of his points come from foulbaiting at the rim and getting contact. I'm not mad about that, I'm saying that's the only thing he did well.

His problem is that the combination of his handle/burst is horrible. Looks like he's in slow motion and you can tell the drive is hopeless from the start, can't get an inch of separation. He's shooting runners and floaters because his man is always able to stay in front. He can't drive by anyone and it doesn't really matter if you're a twig or Adonis at that point.

Both the Jazz and Stars coaches have to see this. It seems like there needs to be an aggressive developmental and strength and conditioning plan. put in place. I realize that the team they played had a lot of seasoning on it but this was really underwhelming.

He’s even worse than I thought he was. I thought he could be a good 3&D player but he’s incapable of even that. He virtually has no skill to speak of on offense.
