Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

Gobert has almost no back to the basket game. I see no potential for him to become a jump shooter either. Watching him in warm ups he missed every single jump shot. 8 I believe he took.

However, I dont think this is a bad thing. What he should do is focus on what he does well, and become the best in the NBA at it. Become the best shot blocker, rebounder, and alleyhoop/dunk man. That is really all we need from him. Maybe develop a baby hook shot or work on the back to the basket game, but I'm not sold that will ever be him.

I just want a mean defensive big that throws down sick jams.

I agree to some extent. The whole "he would be sick with a jumpshoot" is secondary : he is so big and fast you want him near the basket or rolling to the basket. Nevertheless developping a functionning short range game is essential : if he can hit that 5/7 feet hook shot, then you have all you really need. no dependable move beyond dunking would really hamper tactical flexibility.

he's far from a finished product. Just 22-years old, right? Only been getting consistent minutes for how long?

The one thing we know about him is that he's developed at lightning speed........ I don't know how that doesn't give you faith and patience.

faith and patience are great but im just telling you what i see now. do we really want him focusing a lot of time to perfect something that obviously isnt natural to him?
its not his game. yes he is a fast learner, and a special player so maybe he does the impossible. his personality and talent certainly warrant the possibility.

my post was meant to show how content i am with what he brings. id rather him spend his time perfecting that than trying to do something that just isnt natural from everything ive seen.

So what should he work on? He's already a great shot blocker and defender. Karl Malone improved every season he was here until right near the end. When he arrived, he couldn't shoot FT's and had no range. He was all P&R. Like Malone, Gobert needs to work on his FT's. I have a feeling if he could develop that touch, he'd develop range out to 10ft. Add a hook shot to that and he's a 16/12/3 guy (at the minimum).

Rudy's obviously not content with what he brings, so it probably doesn't matter if you (or anybody else) is. That's why he's special (his outcomes, measured in statistics!, are just an effect of this quality). And that's why I think he'll expand his game. Doubting or being content are the lesser options.

This
Is the best thing about Gobert

Good one between Lithuania and Italy. Lith up by 1 at halftime. Need Italy to win to get my semifinal predictions right.
