The Official 2014/15 Tank Watch thread

Orlando won, so that's good. Very exciting game at the end; Korver hit a 3 to put Atlanta up by 1 with 3 seconds left, then Harris hit a game winner at the buzzer.

Charlotte got trounced by Brooklyn.

Memphis comes back from 18 down with 7 mins left to force OT against Philly. Conley is a stud!

DET leading SAC by 10 with 4min left!!!!!

Jazz only 2 games out of the 2nd worst record, but also only 2 games out of the 8th. So far, there are more bad teams than last season, with much worse winning percentages for the bottom-10.

The more I see of the young guys, the less convinced that they'll end up with a top 5 pick. Rudy Gobert is finding his way on offense, but his defensive efforts are going to royally eff up the Jazz tank for this season.

But like tonight though, flashes of brilliance from Gobert, Hayward and Exum, but ultimately our lack of depth (Lindsey's doing IMO) and polish lets us down.

Exactly. This team was designed to be young. Booker is the old man off the bench in terms of NBA experience, but let's face it, at a career average of <7 pts after four seasons, he's not exactly a stud 6th man.

If the Jazz were at .500, it would mean either the rookies and sophs had progressed more rapidly than anticipated, or some of the other players were really breaking out (like Kanter, Burks, etc.). End result? We'd have our starters in place and draft a decent sub in the 11-14 range in the draft.

A record of 6-19? Well, that means we still have some problems. Likely one or two starters who need to be pushed back to the bench or simply need more experience. End result? Jazz will end up drafting in the 1-8 range and pick up a player who has the potential to be a starter.

Bump.

Back in 5th.

Game still being played:
Indiana @ Denver

Tomorrow might be a good day for the tank:
Indiana @ Minnesota (someone has to win)
Philly @ Orlando (same as above)
Detroit @ Brooklyn (same as above)
Boston @ Miami (both teams are <.500)
Lakers @ Ranadive Cherrypickers (see above)

Also, New York @ Toronto, but that's a sure loss for the Knicks.

Teams that will 100% finish worse than us:

Philly
NY
Minnesota
Boston (They hit the nuke button. Green will soon follow Rondo out the door)

Our best case scenario is 5th again. But more realistically expect it to be 8.

Add Detroit.

And I think Boston doesn't lose much by trading Rondo. Nelson and Smart now get all the minutes at PG. Rondo might be a good defender, but he's such a liability on offense. His assists are inflated because everything HAS to go through him.

He beat me to the bump AGAIN!

Still think we have more talent than Philly, New York and Minnesota (even without Alec). Detroit has been playing better of late (after dumping Smith). They're three back. Can they catch us? Utah is in that next group with the Lakers, Charlotte, Indiana, Boston. Even Orlando, Sacramento and Denver are close.

The way Utah was playing of late, I thought they might slip out of the top-10. Now I'm still thinking 5-8. Fortunately, the EC teams get bumps from playing against each other (9 teams < .500 in the EC vs. 6 in the WC).

I'm now officially on the tank the eff out of this B bandwagon

Boston and Indiana both win. NY doing their best to join Philly in the fight for mediocrity. And I have to say I'm a bit concerned about Cleveland. If they miss the playoffs, you KNOW the league doesn't want LBJ to leave; that would be horrible for the image of the NBA. So Cleveland would get the top pick again, allowing them to get the big (Okafor) that they so desperately need. Probably shouldn't worry, though. There's a chance 30 wins is good enough for the #8 seed in the EC this year.

Also, Big Al is out for 4 weeks. Charlotte is going to have a rough January.

Wow if Cleveland got the first pick yet again I might stop watching basketball all together.

Well, I think we can safely say Philadelphia, NY and Minnesota are locks for the 3 worst records. The surprising thing to me is that I thought Philly would EASILY out-tank everyone else. Not that easy

Indiana and Detroit picked up wins. Close miss for LA. Not much separation for the teams 4-11. Jazz are currently #7.
