They traded 42 for 55 and "cash" the basketball equivalent of "a player to be named" AKA Nothing. They took Bolomboy at 52 which is fine. But Paige at 55 and Wallace at 60 were wasted picks. They have no chance to ever make the Utah Jazz. We have 6 point guards already. If they make the Salt Lake City Stars any team can sign them. And I'm so tired of hearing second round picks have no value. Every pick has value.
 
Also, in the NBA, the term All-Star has very little meaning. in the West you get about 15 players and half of them are generally penciled in before they lace up for their first game, with another half of those being voted in my idiot fans no matter how they play. Hill could be the best pg statistically in the League and he will not make the all star game this season. Westbrook, Paul, Harden, Curry, and Thompson are going no matter what happens, probably for the next three years. That leaves 1 guard slot.

Had Teague played in the West, he never would have been an all star. Of course his team would never have won 60 games either.

Is Hill a bonefied all star? No. Are you going to trade for an all star at #12? No. Are you drafting an all star in this draft at #12?, 95% No.

Can Hill advance this team to the next level? There is little question about this. It is almost universally accepted that Hill makes the Jazz a playoff team. If you have to choose playoffs or the continual tail end of the draft, you go playoffs.

"Cash" is paying for all those workouts and scouting that helps us land Gobert. Are you positive that Paige and Wallace aren't going to play in Europe after summer league? If they do, what is the difference between taking one of these guys and a random Euro other than these guys have done something at the college level? Jazz might have asked them their intentions, no? Jazz also might help them land with a Euro Club keeping their rights and doing these players a solid.
 
I wouldn't call a 12 and 6 guy for a lottery pick a fantastic deal. 30 year old on downward part of career to boot.. To each his own but I wouldn't call it a fantastic deal. Indiana got the best of thattrade

It does not matter what possible stars there are in up to 4 years from this draft. It matters what Hill does for Utah this season and if he re-signs. It was not a needless burn of assets. It was a very good use of them.

I like you, you're a good dude but man you and I almost always disagree on the Jazz. Personally I don't want you to quit the board. I feel that declarations like that are overly dramatic.

No I'm not positive. You are correct that it could be the plan. But the odds of it? Slim. It's not very often that homegrown players sign deals with overseas teams and the NBA team that drafted them retain their rights. Hanlan was an anomaly in a lot of ways. It's easier to draft a Euro because they usually already have a team and contract. Harder for a homegrown player to find a team. If it works out that Wallace and Paige go that route I will back off my stance and applaud DL. Until then I see it as a poor decision.
 
I actually like the guy we picked up in the 2nd round. He's got a lot of potential and seems to have a high energy motor on him. I think he'll be given a good shot to stick around.

So with that in mind, DL should be trading up, or AT LEAST drafting someone who COULD develop. Instead, the team DOES improve with Hill, but we KNOW he'll never be an all-star. So Utah just burned what might be their last lottery pick on a solid, but non-star player.
Oh, I forgot: Hayward=Lebron and Exum=Irving. So Utah just needs solid vets to surround those two. Reserve me a spot for the championship parade!

What player would you have traded up for? What assets would you give up?

If you can't at least answer these questions, then how bout you shut the hell up?
 
I'll guarantee [MENTION=345]Stifle Tower[/MENTION] is pissed bc he had never heard of George Hill before this trade, and lottery picks are always good. ****, the 20th pick next year will have more talent than the 12th did this year...and we got a top 15 pg out of it. Some people just gotta bitch.

So, except for the last guy the Jazz drafted in the 2nd round, it is pretty rare? Hanlan signed with BC Žalgiris. Guess who else signed with BC Žalgiris. Brock Motom. It could be coincidence, but two players moving from the Jazz Summer League team to the same European team would seem to include some level of cooperation, no?

Not likely. They probably just happened to like both players and thought those guys would give them a chance to win. Did they cooperate with the Jazz in working to get both? Maybe. But it's not like they are going to take on all the second round players we can't use immediately just so we can retain their rights. They aren't some farm team.
