What's new

This season will vindicate Ty Corbin

dem wheels fallin' off is Corbin's fault, too.

more or less i think it was the sudden lack of star power, system, respect, and caring among the remaining/new players upon Jerry's and Deron's departures

I'm not sure i'd call a record of 31W/23L (.575 --> 47 wins full season) "wheels coming off"....

Him quitting mid year and all the drama and chaos for a very tight lipped team qalifies as the "wheels coming off" to me.

"This season will vindicate Ty Corbin" haters' opinion that he was a terrible NBA head coach. So far, so good.

I think it's also worthwhile to point out parallels in other leagues with more developed farm systems. It's rare for draftees in either hockey or baseball to begin their pro careers in the top league. Teams generally let them find some success, and develop individual skills and good habits against lower level competition in lower leverage situations. For those of you with any experience teaching/mentoring, doesn't this approach generally make a lot of sense?

Absolutely.

This is literally the first time I've seen anyone call into question that the Jazz had become a disaster.

Just a shame Dennis Lindsey didn't see it that way. He must be the biggest idiot and worst GM in the business to let a guy with such amazing BBIQ and player development skills go. Jazz are going to rue the day Corbin was not renewed and Quin was given the coaching reins.

You're aware the Jazz could've fired him mid-season, right?

So you pretty much felt the same as most all of us then

Yes. Well, to a point. A lot of the crap that was being said sounded like Ty was the only problem with the team. The thing is, if the Jazz wanted to win some games, and make the playoffs most years, Ty would have been fine had the GM built a roster for him. The problem was not all the coaching, and I am aware that a lot of the board knew that, and was fine losing games. There was just a fair amount of posters who never gave any substantive reasoning why they did not like Ty, or why they thought he should be fired. I was just pointing out my reasoning behind my dislike of Ty for this team.

On February 8, 2014, Utah Jazz head coach Ty Corbin defeated the Miami Heat 94-89. The team was led in scoring by veteran swingmen Marvin Williams (23) and Richard Jefferson (14). Alec Burks, Enes Kanter, and Derrick Favors each recorded between 21 and 27 minutes, but had a negligible impact on the game.

So he played a couple guys that had no future with the team alot of minutes and won a game during a year that the jazz were tanking.

You have changed my mind, corbin is teh bestest

Are there really people in this thread who would swap Quin for Ty right now?

Maybe I'm just buying into the media/marketing narrative, but the Jazz have been exciting so far this season, and there are some things Quin does objectively better than Ty did--communicating with the media and fans, for example. Stuff like that goes a long way to making the product more entertaining when the team isn't winning.

Because it didn't make sense to say that ... this whole thread is bogus. It really is too early to tell, but the indications are, so far, even if we had lost every game, that this team is playing much differently and on the road back to being a contender. I had noticed some other negative posts by you, which I thought dampens the enthusiasm many of us have right now. We shall see, but let's keep upbeat, ok?

So....a neg rep to get someone to be more "positive".

Umm....

Yeah, it won't hurt your rep power ... you have plenty. Just like a little criticism doesn't hurt LeBron, it only makes him step up.

I feel like stepping up and reminding you that we are one single miracle shot from fully vindicating Ty Corbin. He might have been the best coach we ever had and we just didn't know how good we had it. This season is going to suck!

Who's that famous coach who used to say, "it's just one game?" Ty may yet be vindicated. It's a long way to 25 wins. Besides, is there any doubt Corbin could have had the same kind of internal improvement so many of the players have shown?

Either you're just dumb or playing me. This is the kind of stuff I hate about the message boards. People don't talk about real Jazz stuff; they just bicker with each other. Who cares about Corbin. He's gone, gone, gone.
