What's new

Through Jesus, I am defined by being God's child.

Jesus was certainly a real person that actually lived in that time.

He just wasn't a god or the son of a god or a wizard or anything like that.

Prove it.

Standard arguments apply to both sides.

Why play these games? I'm asking you a direct question. The magical wizard part, or the part about him existing?

Not the magical wizard part, cause I don't think people who believe in him believe he was a wizard. I'm talking about him being the son of God, the Prince of Peace.

All I'm saying is, for all the **** that book says, dude might as well have been a graduate of Hogwarts.

ironic that a Utah-based board is full of atheists.

For the record, I'm not an atheist. It's just that whenever I search and ponder and pray, I get nothing. No bells, no flashing lights, nothing. The main thing that makes me think believing in Jesus might be possible for me is how much I love mewithoutYou. It baffles me that they're Christian, though. Their philosophy seems to me to be far more mystical than anything I see in modern Christianity.

Here's another excerpt from "his facebook":
Last weekend I spent some time with my marketing director, and we were talking about how he wants a midwinter break. I suggested Eureka Casino. What do you all think?? Great weather, he likes to golf, his fiance can have a spa day and maybe he can win some $ for the wedding! https://www.eurekamesquite.com/

Thanks for the ad, Deron! Is that you... Deron?

Why do people thinks its so "crazy" that people believe in Jesus?

-there is not much debate Jesus was a real person

-the 12 apostles were all real people

-even Old Testament writings have historical proof

What about believing in His miracles or His teachings?

-plenty of accounts of them from real historical people

-even some believe that other accounts have been recorded of Him teaching and performing other miracles in other lands

Does this mean everyone should believe in the Divinity of Christ? No, but with so many writing and accounts of His life. Its not the most absurd thing like atheist try to make it seem. People read books that change their lives and beliefs everyday. The Bible and Book of Mormon are just part of a vast collection of books that influence peoples beliefs. I'm sure that many atheists have read books that have influenced their spiritual views.

Anyone ever play telephone? That's the bible. Well, not completely, add in that every translation was controlled by someone of great power and with everything to lose, translated through several (some dead) languages that were hand-written, all of this on top of that figurative speech, exaggeration, and lying existed before written history ever did.

Forget it, at least two of every animal on a boat? Definitely.

But you know, if you need a talking snake to show you the difference between right and wrong, then I guess the bible has a place.

The bible has a place? Whether you believe in it or not its easily the most influential book of human civilization. All modern principles from morality, justice, environmental concerns, science, technology etc etc etc can be traced to the Bible. The very country you live in was hugely influenced by the Bible and its teachings.

The phrase" I guess the bible has a place" is just a wee bit of an understatement.

Science? Technology? Justice? Etc etc. Sure, you can trace it to the Bible in the sense that if those throughout history who had been indoctrinated in it since childhood hadn't later questioned or disregarded many of the Bible's absurd and contradictory declarations, there'd be no modern world.
