Trade Favors Before Long

Nah. I'm all for trading guys who seem to be leaving for nothing. Especially guys I feel don't fit next to our more important players.

This whole thread is about the long haul not right now. I'm interested to see how the next 6 weeks go. I did jump the gun a little on the timing. Mainly joking on injury prone players...

News flash he IS one of our more important players. Also him and Rudy on the floor are showing pretty good chemistry, and the worry about spacing is being waaaaaay over blown.

My point was more that it's simply a lot tougher for a defender to defend Favors at 21 feet AND try to come back to the lane or rim and help out than it is at 18 feet. But you're right too.

But no one is guarding him at 20 feet.

The value of spot-up mid-range shot isnt spacing, it's more of a release valve to get a decent look.

Like if Rubio drives the paint and he cant find Gobert rolling or anyone in the corners, he probably knows he has Favors just above the FT arc. Unless he has nailed 3 in a row or something, the defense is probably living with that shot.

What are the chances that Derrick Favors re-signs with the Jazz in free agency? Another team will offer him more money and probably more touches.

Jazz can offer him more money. Favor's values consistency with his team. Favor's also wants to play pf not center. How many teams are looking for a PF entering his prime that have cap room? There might be a couple but not many if any. Holding his bird rights will go a long ways. If Jazz aren't interested in signing him again I guess they should take him at the deadline. If they want to keep him, I think they can.

I vomit in my mouth at the idea of giving Favors more because we "can offer him more money." Are you saying we should consider giving him a max?

Lets just see the next 6 weeks play out. I hope he continues to play well and stay healthy.

Can we also just see how the next 6 weeks go before we make any more stupid Trade Favors threads?

No, I don't think he should or will get the max. I am saying we can offer more than other teams. I am also saying we are the only team that can go over our salary cap to sign him.

Who do you think will go after him in FA with room?

I gotta say I might be Favors least big fan. He doesn't fit next to Gobert offensively. Defensively it's really solid. I'd trade him for Bledsoe even.

There has been zero news about the Jazz trying to extend Favors this year, and Favors didn't seem interested in an extension using the Jazz's extra cap room last season.

If all Favors is going to do for us is grab a few rebounds, defend and hit a few jump shots, we can get that from someone a lot cheaper than the money Favors is going to be looking for. Tonight he had 6 pts, 3 rebs, and 2 ast. in 24 minutes. Neither Favors nor the Jazz are going to be satisfied with that.

I dont see why the Jazz would extend him. Last season there were rumors that it was being discussed early before the season started. Once he got hurt and we picked up Hill the extension talks surrounded Hill since they were looking at ways to use the extra cap space. Fortunately that turned into Rubio. So there have been talks but once he got hurt that was too risky, and Hill was a bigger target due to him expiring first and they thought a bigger market for him.

Right now there is almost no reason to extend him. He still needs to prove he can stay healthy for a season. They also have his bird rights and no team can really offer him much that is going to offer him much. There is not a big market for Favors in FA. Cap space is going to be limited next year for most teams. Maybe there is a team but I am not seeing who that will be. I guess teams could make some moves to clear up space to go after him. Maybe NO if Cousins leaves.

I dont think anyones performance tonight is satisfying to the Jazz. Our entire roster sucked in that game except maybe Udoh. The same statement could be said about Gobert, Ingles, Rubio and Burks.

This season per 100 possessions Favor's is 2nd on our team in points at 24 ppg behind only Hood. He is scored the 3rd most points even playing less minutes than the two people above him and scoring more than them per 36 or per 100.

Favors is doing as well as anyone on our team this season so far. Honestly no one is putting up great stats. Well again except for Udoh, who is putting up crazy good defensive stats.

Maybe Udoh needs more minutes over Gobert since Favors and Udoh are playing better together than Gobert/Favors and Gobert/JJ. That is mostly a joke but Udoh should steal a couple minutes from Favors and Gobert each. His play deserves more than 15 mpg.

This

And if people try to say it was just a bad game, then why hasnt he rebounded all year?

I hope he can have a few game stretch where he plays well and then we can test the market for him. I still think he is a great fit in Atlanta. They probably wouldnt give us a 1st rounder for him although they do have 3 or 4 this upcoming draft.

Well through 5 games our only starter with a positive net rating is Favors at +3.8. He is also our leader in offensive rating at 102.7 of qualified players

Per 100 possessions or per 36 min Favors is our 3rd best scorer behind Hood and Burks. He has scored the 3rd most points for our team behind Gobert and Rubio. All without the team really running plays for him designed to score. He is just going out and getting points where he can.

He is shooting the 2nd best percentage from the floor behind Rudy. Although all but 1 of Rudys shots has been at the rim, while Favors is about 50/50.

Favors has the 3rd highest assist percentage (only behind Mitchel and Rubio) and 3rd highest AST/To ration.

Here is the rebound stat that matters:
He is allowing the second least amount of offensive rebounds only behind Udoh.

All around he has been one of our best players so far.

Yeah, Favors is not the guy that should be traded (unless the season is being forfeited or he is part of a package that brings back a legit, long term asset).

I still think the most probable scenario is we don't trade him and he leaves as FA in the summer.

I agree but I don't see a huge market for him... one thing that will start happening again is sign and trades.

Unless we got a first for him or a different skill set at the 4 that for better I wouldn't trade him. If we give up on the season, which is very improbable, we might be able to use him with AB to get back expiring money.

Don't panic just yet. He looks healthy and is making his jumpers at a decent rate... maybe we decide to adjust and let him go hard at the offensive glass... IDK but it is not panic time.

What teams do you think will pursue him that have cap space and want him to play his position of pf? What type of contact do you see him getting?

I have said it in the past and I will say it again Favors is more of a center in todays NBA then a PF. He can play PF against teams that have more of a stretch center. I wouldnt complain about a trade that broght back Jordan Clarkson (The lakers will need to trade him to free up cap space this summer)
