Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I would definitely prefer Grant to John Collins, I also think he would fit better next to Lauri and Kessler.

I think most if not all of us would as well. The problem is we aren’t going to get Grant and a first for Beasley/Vando like we would with Collins. We are likely adding draft capital to the deal instead of getting it back.

Is Grant minus a first better than Collins plus a first? Especially since Collins is signed for multiple years and Grant is a UFA coming up. I don’t think so personally. If Grant signs an extension it’s a completely different story of course.

If it is not John Collins...there's DLO out there and...there's Kuz... Hmmm, Kuzma? That would be kind of fun.

And oh and OG, well yeah him too is possible.

The entire reason the Wizards traded Rui was to sign Kuzma to a long-term extension.

To be fair to Mike... I like his schtick and its fun. I actually do think he has some connection but that the info that comes through is likely less bankable than FTX.

I can add to what he heard and give you one more breadcrumb... Its a player who plays for a team in Canada and some call him the Original Gangsta. I can't give any more info than that okay!!!
Original Gangsta = "OG" = Octavius Rudy Gobert

I think it all depends on the extension. If he's willing to sign an extension here then I would prefer to do that deal over the Collins deal, even if it costs us a first. If he won't sign the extension then it's definitely not a deal worth doing.

Grant would accelerate our timeline though... and he is not a #1 so we would still be short one elite point guard and the clock would be ticking louder.

Please explain why you seem so certain that the Hawks are willing to give us Collins and a first for Beasley and Vando. To me, this looks like smoke the Jazz are putting out to try to bring Collins's price down. I can't see the Hawks as actually being on board.

I'm not sure... if the Collins plus a first deal is on the table that's the one I'd prefer.

Grant is the player I'd prefer though. I think the difference is we need Collins to do things that Grant is better at. Shooting, defending, etc. For Portland... there is a case for selling him off before FA if things have gotten bad... poor performance and Dame deciding he wants to be moved... or if they have decided they are moving on from Dame. If he's willing to sign the extension I'd consider putting in the Nets pick... but I doubt we can get him to sign. I don't think he'd be a fan of coming to Utah and should have a solid market in the 25M range.

Honestly if Portland things he's a flight risk... Beasley and Vando for Grant is actually a pretty solid move as it gives them the option of having both guys next year and not risking losing Grant for nothing.

To be clear... I'm guessing on Grant's availability. I think Hart might be more gettable... was just thinking of players in the nebulous player type that @bigmike suggested.

Multiple reports have suggested that is the offer DA made to Atlanta... and it was not accepted... so this may be correct otherwise the trade would happen. Does either side change the ask before the deadline? I think Atlanta is more likely to change than DA. If Hawks walked away I think you see us do a smaller Vando deal and have a relatively quiet deadline.

Rui's qualifying offer is 8.5M... so if Lakers want to re-sign him which Woj says they do... it means they are going to likely have $21-22M in cap space after waiving capholds on all FA not named Austin Reeves. Can they do better with 21-22M in cap space and the mini-MLE than what they would do moving Westbrook now and getting guys with another year left on their deals? Would give them the full MLE to work with as well... so like 11M.

I just wonder wtf they are doing? Are they lying? Are they dumb? Just letting Westbrook expire and punting on this year leaves them with less trade options if they want a star and wastes a year of James and AD. They gonna move Bron or AD this offseason?

I wonder if they’d rather do Vando/KO for Grant instead of Beasley because of all of the guards they already have. What pick are we adding? What picks would you not add?

I think I would do a deal around Jerami Grant if they talked with him and he agreed to sign the extension... I think 4/110M-ish on a wing that fits a lot of what we need on the wing is great actually. I'd want to know he was okay being in Utah, he may have some of the same issues Don did here.

Malik - to porty or elsewhere, Vando, and the Brooklyn pick is likely as high as I'd go... and its in line with what they go him for.

Mike
JC
Grant
Lauri
Walker

Seems like a pretty decent starting lineup.

The only guys I can think of that fit the player type @bigmike is talking about are Jerami Grant, John Collins and OG Anunoby. Considering salary as well as they’d likely be in the 16M-23M range. Not sure who else it would be who’s available.

Probably a good call... they have issues at the big positions so maybe KO/Vando... fits the salary needs as they can't add any salary without hitting the tax. Brooklyn pick is the only draft capital I'd add... and maybe you flip Beasley in a separate deal.

If he agreed to that extension I’d be willing to give up a better pick than the BKN/PHI pick.

Maybe Josh Hart but that wouldn't be someone we need to add picks to get imo.
