Training Camp Notes

Locke seems to think THT/Keyonte playing with the starting front court meant something.

Basically said THT was our best assist guy last year, so him starting to feed others makes sense. Keyonte would contrast him to provide outside shooting.

Clarkson/Sexton would play more in the lineups with spaced bigs to take advantage of their attacking ability

Sexton and Clarkson both coming off of the bench would legit shock me the most out of any outcome.

I agree that would be shocking... unless if Keyonte just outright wins the job. Then it makes sense to let him be the primary slasher/passer, and you probably want a defensively capable guy next to him.

Locke ain't never played pickup... putting all the 1s together against the 2s won't be competitive and benefit anyone. They will mix and match. This is glorified pickup and the amount of work we are putting in trying to make something out of nothing is hilarious.

It would be stupid. JC and Sexton are the two best backcourt players we have. I think he is just working with pairings and making the teams competitive.

We will see Sunday but I would lock in JC, John C, Lauri, Kessler as starters.

In a theoretical world where Keyonte wins the job though... who would you start next to him?

Also if Key wins the starting gig it means he is like 50% better than the other dudes so get excited. He can't win the job just being slightly better. He also might need a Rodney Hood gastro-intestinal type break. With the way Hardy works that would be a very very very good sign of how Key is performing.

Yeah the fit would be weird either way but my concern with Key + JC is more about putting too much pressure on Key defensively.
Yeah that’d be a big concern. Ochai and Key isn’t enough ball handling though. I would set the over/under for games started for Key at like 20. It will take a trade/some roster shuffling to make it work.

If keynote wins the job then I assume he is a good defender

Or it means he just really good at shooting and pairs well with THT

...."good enough" defender might be the better way to say it.

If Keyonte comes out early in his career looking anywhere near average on defense, then I'm gonna be gulping down koolaid.

If you think about groups, you want THT with Lauri/Walker/JC. THT is far and away our best passer and best lob thrower. The next decision would be Keyonte or Ochai, and you go with Keyonte because it's easier to get Ochai minutes throughout the game as he works on all lineups.

You want Sexton around floor spacing. He's our best driver and his best passing skill is kicking out to shooters. You can also pair him with the more natural PG KO.

Clarkson works off the bench because it's a role he is use to and seems to be cool with whatever as long as he gets his minutes/shots over the course of a game.

I mean being that good at shooting would be a very good sign lol. Ochai is a good shooter too... if Key is so good he starts right away it means he's all-rookie first team good.
