What's new

Trey Burke/Chris Paul

i would venture to say that burke is a better assist man than MCW...

dude barely had more assists (+0.6, or 9% more) while turning the ball over way more (+1.2, or 35.3% more). TB ast/to: 3.04; MCW ast/to: 2.1

only 9% more assists while turning it over 35% more? make all the assists you want, but if you can't stop giving it to the other team, you aren't much of an assist man.

and don't take a 3:1 ast/to score lightly, only 6 guys in the entire nba managed that last season. if he could do that in the nba, then yes, i would consider him a terrific assist man.

If Trey Burke ends up being comparable to Chris Paul in the NBA then the Jazz just won this draft in a landslide. My gut feeling is that Trey can realistically be a borderline all-star for 10 years. He could be better, but at his worst I think he'd make an exceptional backup.

I love that the jazz moved up to get burke but I'm still not as high on him as everyone else.
I hope he ends up as good as mike conley and just doesn't end up like jameer nelson or dj augustine.

I feel confident in saying that he will not end up in the same group as cp3, dwill, rondo, irving, parker, westbrook, rose, curry, nash.
Maybe right in that conley, lawson, holiday, rubio range.... if we are lucky.

I think we got the best pg in the draft and I give the jazz an A+ for what they did in the draft, but it was a weak draft after all and trey did fall quite a few spot from what he was projected

I would be happy with a Kemba Walker personally. That is all we need if Enes Kanter reaches his potential (which I believe is a taller Kevin Love with better defense) or Derrick Favors reaches his.

Yep. Hopefully a better version of Kemba though with much better 3pt shooting (hence more space for Favors & Kanter to operate).

I do believe that Trey found the best fit with the Jazz. We have 2 potential monsterous PnR bigs ready to go (Favors with PnR an Kanter with Pick and Pop).

There's everything he needs here to reach his potential, whereas if he'd gone to the Kings, I doubt he'll do as well.

PGAB. You seem to feel that many people are over stating Burkes potential and seem to be frustrated that no one is accepting your arguments. The problem is you are over stating and incessently repeating your arguments against the comparison just as much as everyone else is in favor of the comparison. It is entirely reasonable for people to look at Burke's colllege stats, his personality, work ethic, competitive spirit and compare them to CP3 in a positive light. I was very sceptical of the pick on draft night and thought it may be better to keep 14 and 21 and still perhaps shoot for the Gobert trade on top of that as well as the Neto deal. However, having done much more research and listening to Burke, his Family, coaches, broadcaster, and beatwriter I am optimistic that he does have a chance to be a very good point guard in the NBA. He probably never will rise to the level of CP3. As the 9th pick he shouldn't, However as Jazz fans we can hope that he does. Please come down off your 150+ IQ and allow us slugs to enjoy the summer and hope for the best.

Good post, ekimebert. I don't think anyone is arguing Burke will = Paul. Like you, I was a bit hesitant about seeing the Jazz trade up. I thought the best value would have been to draft a 3rd big and then backup PG. Jazz ended up with a starting PG, eventual backup PG and, for now, a 4th big with tremendous upside. Looking ahead to the 2014 draft, the Jazz have a much better chance at a wing or a third big than they do at getting a PG of Burke's caliber. And whichever they don't get in the draft can be obtained via FA or trade if Utah manages their cap space.

actually you compared Trey Burkes passing favorably to CP3's and have presented no evidence to support your argument, in a forward looking sense, your concern is only whats in the rearview mirror

instead you condense what the forum feels and pass that off as fact

whos the retard again?

retarded iq is 50-69, mines triple that plus some...
Before this moment I have never heard a truly intelligent person brag about their IQ.

After this moment I still haven't.

Does anyone here remember what people on this board thought about Chris Paul before he was drafted? Is there anyone here who has been on jazzfanz that long? Just curious
There was a pretty healthy debate over whether to draft Paul or Deron. In the end, a few were peeved at Paul for not visiting Salt Lake. We took that to mean Paul would leave the first chance he got and Deron would be around forever to add his statue next to John and Karl. AS for the OP, no way is Burke comparable to CP3. Trey might be fast, but he's not quick like Paul.

It was pretty polarized.

Some didn't like Paul's size, skipping out on us, and overall d-baggery (like when he punched that NC State player in the groin).
Some didn't like Duron's shot, lack of quickness (fatness. He wasn't in great shape in college), and overall potential.

Some loved Paul's quickness, ability to create, and steals. Some loved Duron's size and passing.

It was split 50/50 if I remember right.

Ya about 50/50
I wanted paul a lot more than d will.

I think it was pretty much divided between CP and DWill, but the rumors had it that Jerry liked Deron and the Jazz were going to try to move up to draft him not Paul, so I think the board was leaning in favor of DWill. After the draft, a lot of DWill fans joined the board and a lot anti-Paul feeling developed here.

I've always thought that comparing every undersized guard to Chris Paul, is just as bad as comparing every white shooter to Larry Bird.

And then there was one dude that wanted Jarret Jack...

That Michigan team is still weird as ****. They were a great team, but every NBA talent they had was a bust.

I guess Mitch McGary has looked OK in limited minutes, but that's about it.

Ya Hardaway Jr hasn't mounted to much either.

True but he still can't possibly be classified as a bad pick for the Knicks, they were able to trade him for a much higher pick in a better draft a few years later. You could argue that ATL let them off the hook, but it just is what it is.
