Trump Threatens Nuclear War

All of the countries that could potentially be involved in an American/N. Korea fight are making their stances publicly known.

China vows to remain neutral unless the U.S. strikes first. At which point they will come to N. Korea's aid.

Japan has vowed to shoot down any N. Korean missiles launched at Guam.

Australia says that any attack on the U.S. would invoke the "Anzus Treaty". A mutual security pact between the U.S., Australia and New Zealand.

S. Korea warns that N. Korea will face a stern response from "allied forces" if it followed through on its threats.

The Philippines have condemned N. Korean posturing.

Cambodia has stalled any ASEAN statement against N. Korea. Trying to keep pressure off N. Korea.

All of this has significantly raised the stakes on a first strike from either side. Very smart move by China.

And, you know, that whole NATO thing...

The one thing I can't figure out is how come it took Trump so long to start WWIII

Can you visit Guam, as like a tourist thing? Or is it pretty much all military?

Not for lack of trying. Sanctions on N. Korea and Russia. He attacked the Syrian government. He attacked Iranian backed "rebels" in Yemen. He insulted China. Made NATO appear to be lacking American backing that could have made Russia bold in the Baltics...

Threatening N. Korea just appears to be his most successful gambit so far.

Pretty sure this sums up the current foreign policy:

I'm not sure we have great leverage over China. We are a consumer nation. Without cheap Chinese made goods, our economy comes to a screeching halt. At best, we are equal partners. That means, that neither one of us has leverage over the other. Not a good starting pt in making demands. And I think it shows how little leverage we have in China's stance on this situation that they just released. They're neutral and will side with NK if we strike first.

Export dependent nations have historically been hurt the most during instances as you are mentioning and take the longest time to recover. The import nations tend to weather the blow much more softly and quickly.

America's biggest economy is war. NK might actually need to taken to war, it's just a shame we are still involved in all that stupid **** in the middle east that the only clear reasoning behind is to line the pockets of military contractors.

We talk about what it would cost to insure everyone with proper healthcare and politicians complain about the cost.

We talk about going to war and politicians are hyped as **** to spend that money.

The war machine generates lots of mid- to low-level (read: voter-block) jobs in a hurry. Medicine not so much. Making medical affordable will likely cut money out of the medical machine, as costs must be lowered, hence out of the economy. War always pumps money into the economy even if it is short-lived. Easy decision for politicians.

It's to line contractors pockets lmao. It has nothing to do with mid to low level jobs. The USA has been in the Middle East for about 17 years fighting a pointless war.

We've been there since 1945, earlier if you count our role in securing the region in WW1. The US Navy is the world's number one consumer of oil. The US will have a heavy presence in the middle east as long as we have superior forces.

At this point the threats are just a record on repeat. It's gone as far as words will really carry it. Any further escalation will require some form of action. A blockade, military drills on the border, missiles launches, audio propaganda...that kind of thing.

I don't think either side will take that action. But how well can one really predict the actions of these two.

I can't find the article and I'm too lazy to really look for it. But it was either on CNN or USA Today that said that nothing really has changed from our military's standpoint. We haven't sent additional reinforcements into the Pacific, that would indicate future military action on the Korean Peninsula. It seems to me like Trump is really just bluffing.

Saw an article where S Korea said hey had observed 0 actions by N Korea that lead them to believe an attack/missile launch was imminent.

So yeah. Two blowhards that got their bluffs called.

IMO, Trump's experience of winning in business is about acting like the biggest jerk in the room. Act like a jerk, demand the opposition acquiesce (land, money, etc) and make the deal.

That's how he bent over the GOP's 16 other contestants.

He's probably trying this tactic with NK. Whether it works or not? We'll see. But I doubt he's actually planning on embroiling America into a war that would essentially consume his presidency. We all saw how much Iraq distracted Bush's agenda. After Shock and Awe happened, nothing domestically could ever get done. Same thing here. If we get into Korea, the foreseeable future will be consumed by the war and rebuild. Walls, infrastructure, health care & tax reform? Gone.

Short-sighted as usual, and way wrong to boot. But whatever.

I think Cy and others are both right. Mostly Cy. Those in control make decisions and like Chaney with Halliburton, he wanted to line his and his cronies' pockets. That said, he and his boys also knew it would help create jobs like Log and others have mentioned. The MIC isn't just ********.

Having said that, what will our scumbag politicians and cronies decide to get their hands into to make money once oil has dried up? I'm not saying it's imminent or anything but it is a finite resource and these jerkoffs will have to find something else to get rich off of. I assume it's water as the privatization of it began some time ago. Pretty scary thought. Terrifying really.

So if he really was bluffing, and it works, that's a good job...right?

I prefer the luftaballoons version [url[/MEDIAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La4Dcd1aUcE (mostly for the 33s mark when she bites her lower lip)

With the US SK military drills underway I hope no kids get crazy and launch some balloons into the air. WWIII can wait, amiright?

Lol. Now what? Donald gonna take a break from bad mouthing republican senators and tweet something mean again at Koreatown? I can tell Donald's bluffing is like totally working! :) lol #winning

(CNN)North Korea launched a barrage of missiles Saturday, less than one week after being praised by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for showing 'restraint' in its weapons program.
