What's new

ty lawson to the jazz?

The Jazz have been scouting Lawson for weeks according to Jazz sources, so it's not just a "pitch". Utah is legitimately intrigued by the potential.

Really? That's surprising because these types of players don't quite fit the typical Jazz player profile. If it's true, I stand corrected. I would be surprised if the Jazz would take this risk.

I'm hoping they leaked this to drop the asking price on George Hill. He's a perfect fit here

Growing sense around the league is that the Jazz are poised to go through with the Ty Lawson deal with the Rockets

Ty Lawson talks are serious and Jazz have committed to ship out Trey Burke ... 12 hours and change left for someone to trump Houston's offer

LOL .. a lot of polarising comments about the Burke & Lawson swap.

Some thinks it's a good idea, some thinks the Jazz are "dumbasses" ... LOL

The Jazz could just waive Lawson. His contract next year isn't guaranteed. Jazz are probably better off keeping Burke until the offseason if Lawson is all they can get. I presume a decent pick is involved too.

So may be this is the point we haven't properly discussed.. the fact that Trey's agent might want him out of Utah and has been pressuring the Jazz to do so?

I'll ask: Who benefits from Lawson/Burke rumors?
Houston (Ty's value grows) ✓
Lawson (wants out of HOU) ✓
Burke (agent wants Trey out) ✓

If this is the case then this explains why the Jazz are trying to sell Burke low and is trying hard to get rid of him.

Trey's agent is his dad.

It's not exactly a secret if he publicly wants him out on his Twitter account.

No, I brought it up plenty of times.

Trey, if he stays, might be the 3rd string PG and receive no playing time in his contract year. No player management team wants that.

Thanks Andy, it does make more sense when you present it like that.. LOL ..

I know DL had said that the Jazz prides itself on not 'giving up on players' and wants to be known around the League for that. But at the same time DL is obliged to honour the players' wishes somewhat. It can weigh down on the team when you have 1 unhappy player (see Kanter last year?).

If Trey or his father wants him to move on, then why fight it? DL shipped Kanter out this time last year under similar circumstances... I guess it's no surprise he's doing it again now.

I think it's just this:

Utah plans on making him the 3rd string PG next year, meaning he will get close to 0 minutes per game. That makes his trade value plummet. Might as well trade him now that his improvement curve is slightly up (even though he has cooled off since the start of the season). I dont think this is agent/player driven, it's just Utah recognizing this is the best time to deal Burke and get something worthwhile in return.

But if that's true, can't they do that during the offseason? What's the rush in getting it done at the trade deadline this year? One could argue he could improve even more as we fight for the playoff spot plus it's not like we have 3 PGs right now, Trey is our solid backup PG so he should still be getting big minutes.
