Utah Jazz Summer League Topic

Anderson and Simmons for the Spurs made our guys look like they belong in the D league.

Lyles hit some 3's and made a few plays but Anderson ate his lunch several times. Lyles needs to come back and play better.

Pleiss hit a 3 and long jumper. He seems to have sped up his shooting stroke. He still gets bumped out of rebounding position. He showed better defensive awareness but still cannot get there to wall off the basket. He has several more games but I see some small improvements--not enough to make him worth keeping. I cannot decide what about his rolls to the hoops that are so ineffective but they have no gravity.

Bolomboy looks like a raw athlete with the beginning of several NBA skills. As expected he isn't going to be ready to do anything this year. But I like him as a developmental prospect.

Hanlan made several good moves to get into the paint to score or pass. He was easily our best guard in the game.

Paige doesn't look like an NBA player. Maybe he can show us something but I just don't see it.

Wallace looked okay to me. His size and quickness looked okay on D. He scored a few times around the hoop but he needs to get stronger and find a jump shot.

Oh and no one guards Craft on the pick and roll. They know he isn't going to shoot and make the shot.

Bottom line we need to look for another FA big man for some depth.

Well my 4 minute observation: Bolomboy doesnt look that good.

Yeah, he looks raw but he has the athleticism, runs the floor well, very active, reminds me physically of a young Mailman. He looked nervous to me. I'm anxious to see what he can do as the summer league progresses.

Tibor is not an NBA player. Sure, he can shoot, but that's about all. Not only is he not strong enough to play the 5 in the NBA -- he makes AK look like Charles Oakley -- but he's also slow and not a good rim protector despite being 7-3. Plus he's 27. He needs to go back to Europe.

He also looks slow side to side and has a jump shot like Ronnie Brewer.

Just saw this on Tom Pitt's signature:

"We can't put a diaper on him one day, and a jockstrap on him the next." Jerry Sloan

Sloan was a badass.

Brutal. But witty. Not sure if I should congratulate you or heap scorn upon you.

Probably both. It's just an old saying that used to be said about Sloan. Now it's kind of sad. My grandmother had Alzheimer's and my dad was headed down that path before a weak heart took him first.

Hopefully someone puts together a Jazz highlight reel for these games.

For now there is this. Shows Lyles making two sweet jump shots.

Lyles looked great for 4 minutes and then bad after that. Good news is that we've seen him play very well during the regular season, so I'm not worried about it. All this is demonstrating is he's not good enough for a starting role, but 8th-9th man absolutely fine

Lyles has really fallen off after that hot start. Giving half effort on defense too.

Yeah, I shut the game soon after this became apparent - Lyles looked like he was going at about 3 quarters speed after he came back in the game after starting off hot.

Hanlan looked so MUCH better than last year.

Pleiss has to be the shortest 7'3" player I've ever seen. He doesn't scare anyone on defense.

Bolomby looked super amped - back rimming everything just like Lyles did last Summer League. He'll calm down. Enjoyed the half-time bio on him - seems like a genuinely nice kid.

Otherwise meh, boring game, boring players....funny Aaron Craft was once on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The fact that he's trying to make a roster with eleven point guards already seems futile - maybe someone will notice him but he'll have to start playing like he belongs in the NBA.

That's true...

Here's my $.02. Lyles got started well and then fizzled. 2nd half he did not look interested in playing D. Pleiss looks like a scrawny Euro. Can Tomic still come over? Hanlan surprised me. He looked so bad last summer. He might have been our best player on the floor overall. I think Bolomboy does not make the final roster. Paige and Wallace will make good Salt Lake Stars. Aaron Craft is not an NBA player but hustles.
