Utah Jazz Summer League Topic

Does anyone else like Butterfield? I can't tell if he's an NBA caliber player, but he has a pure shot and has a good feel for the game. He's also a surprisingly good rebounder. I feel like he rebounded better than Bolomboy and Pleiss in the Utah Summer League...

Pleiss can certainly shoot. If he played enough minutes he would probably be our best FT shooter.

Anywhere we can find the summer league stats for the team? The whole team really seems to be on fire from 3.

Pleiss is improved but still so, so weak around the hoop. His effort was good tonight but that might be a reflection his weak matchups. The guy is tall and can shoot but that is about it. If he was 23 instead of 26 I would feel a lot better about him. As it is I would consider cutting him.

Bolomboy stayed in his lane offensively tonight and was very efficient. I was surprised at his 3 assists tonight. He was on-time and on-target over and over again. These were simple reads and passes but so many players screw that up. Passing was something Trevor Booker often screwed up. Basically Bolomboy has an NBA body with NBA athletic ability now. His jumper needs improving but it looks okay out to the corner 3. I am trying to figure out how to fit him on the team because we need more players who are above average athletes. I think the biggest improvement for Bolomboy will come in defensive footwork. He seems to have the raw quickness needed to switch out on guards and the strength to guard bigs. This kind of defensive versatility is valuable.

Paige just isn't strong enough for the NBA game right now.

Wallace some some defensive ability over the summer league but man he cannot shoot.

Everyone else isn't at a NBA level right now.

Pleiss played better

If you gets chance read Andy Latsen's triple team about Pleiss.

"Pleiss' play has been worrying for Jazz executives during summer league. He's not always in the court in the right spots, not great for a player who should know better after a year in Utah and Idaho. But he has the undeniable ability to shoot from the outside...

Ultimately, the Jazz are going to have to choose between Pleiss and Bolomboy to keep on the roster..."

I think he might be a little early in his declaration that the Jazz will have to choose, but it might come to that.

If he was like 3 inches taller/longer. He looks like he can really play. I listened to a Locke podcast and he said Butterfield has turned the most heads. Mentioned he played in some OK Serbian league (I might be remembering this wrong) and averaged like 14 points per game, but after this SL he should be getting looks from higher up teams if he wants them.

How is Bolomboy looking defensively? I have not watched the games when Lyles was sitting out.

Very good on the ground. Athletic and can handle switches. After Buddy Hield made 4 in a row, they ran pick and roll and Bolomboy switched and completely bodied him and he got off a terrible shot.

Bad on help defense, and hasn't been blocking any shots. Most of this is from lack of defensive vision and know how.

So we won 2 games withouth Lyles and lost all with him.
