What's new

Video Game Thread

I only died about 20 times in the Dark Souls 2 tutorial section. So far, so good. Never touch Big Ogre/Rhino looking things. And never fall into pits where maniacs reside. I'm learning quick.

I just finished playing the third and final DLC for this game. Good times. The DLC areas actually seemed a bit better-designed than most of the areas from the vanilla game. And it was certainly hard as hell.

I don't think I died much in the tutorial section (probably helped that I started as a mage, so had some ranged attacks to begin), but I distinctly remember falling to my death at least a couple of times...

Have any of you or your kids/relatives tried the brand new Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes or the new Skylanders? If so, do you/they like it?

Every year I like to pick a game/series to play during the month of October. This month my girlfriend and I are playing through Obscure 1 and 2 (it was on steam sale). Neat little survival horror franchise from last decade. It has permadeath though which is crazy and I just end up reloading saves instead of letting the characters die off.

Also just finished Walking Dead Season 2. Very enjoyable, though I think I liked the first season better. This one was definitely more of a downer.

Are anybody rocking ps4s yet? Is there anything worth playing on next gen? Im holding out until bloodborne.

i just got one, it's pretty awesome. The controller alone is worth the 400$. Only played destiny and Shadow of Mordor, both looked and played great. Esp shadow of mordor, best game i've played in a long time. TONS of great games coming out in the next few months.

Shadow of mordor's review scores surprised me for sure. It seems like it's the first truly satisfying next-gen experience. I def want to play.

seems like a good place for this post...

In somewhat related news, video gaming apparently is now a competitive varsity sport at a few colleges and some - including Robert Morris University in Chicago, alma mater of Jazz legend Othyus Jeffers - are even offering athletic scholarships to talented gamers.

By Douglas Belkin

Prospective students compete for a spot on the nation's first varsity videogame team. At stake: a scholarship that might be worth $50,000.

But it's not exclusive, right? Most of these games are still coming out on the older systems. That's why I haven't taken the plunge yet.

Has anyone played lords of the fallen? just traded in shadow of mordor and debating picking this up or waiting for dragon age....

I'm so excited for Dragon Age. I'm big fan of Bioware's earlier RPG's--Kotor, Dragon Age: origins are some of my favorite games. Dragon Age seems like a real return to that.

Kotor was amazing. Played that so many times. Jade Empire and Kotor 2 were OK for me as well. Dragon Age origins was good. Excited for Inquisition.

I've heard the online play is Diablo III'esc, it will be interesting to see how it plays. I was planning on getting the game as soon as I heard they were going to make it, I am curious how the online part will play, I know it is totally separate from the story and that there is no PvP.
