Was on the fence with Ariza, couldn't hurt to look at him.
Honestly haven't watched him enough to know how efficient he is, or if he can defend.

Could be a good option, I just don't know.

Edit: Looked at some stats, it looks like he improved his shooting this last year and was quite efficient. He would have to be at least as "good" as our perimeter defenders, and most likely better. Sound about right?

He shot 41% from three last year. Defense? Who knows, but he has a reputation as a good defender, so we'll go with it.

One game. What did he do in all the other games in his career, or this year when he got to play a lot more? I'm not too impressed tbh.

Still think the FO should take a look at pretty much everyone based on how good our team was last year.

im not saying give him a big contract, i like the risk reward. hes 25 and if the Jazz are looking for shooting Anderson deserves a mention

he was asked to start this year which is probably not the best for him, in Utah off the bench he could be a weapon. only 33% on 4.4 attempts per from three this year but i think hes capable of shooting in the high 30's

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBgHBEpdGY - i guess he likes to play the rockets

Couldn't hurt to take a look at him. We need so much that to not look at somebody would be stupid. We do need a bench that doesn't lose the game for us as opposed to last year.

U'd do one or the other of livingston and Hinrich, not both. Would like to see Neto come over. Also depends on if Exum falls to us, or if we take Smart.

I just don't see the love for Gortat. Phoenix was much better without him, and Washington's success came from Ariza on the wing, Nene beasting, and Beal and Wall being who they are and older. Also, we just cleared the log jam up front, and Gortat is on the decline. 13.2 pts and 9.5 rebs doesn't excite me enough to steal minutes from Kanter, Favors, Gobert trio (when we will likely keep one or two of E. Murphy, M. Thomas, J. Evans, or M. Williams in the big rotation as well).

I keep pushing Gortat because I don't think Kanter or Favors is still here. It just feels like the Deron draft, where you know if Utah doesn't trade up, we are screwed. We have to do something.

So, what do you and others see in Livingston? I am flabbergasted and drawing a blank as to what reason we would want him on our team.

Thanks.

Pros:
Genuine mismatch.
Height bothers other PG's.
Better backup than Diante Garrett.

Cons:
Can't shoot the 3.
Only assists 20.1% of the time, but is still better than Diante's 17.6%, and JLIII's pitiful 11.1%

He's not a wow signing by any means.

the nets won a bunch of games when Deron sat with ankle injuries, after that Livingston was in the starting lineup for the rest of the year, and they made their playoff push. without Livingston in the starting lineup im sure they were under .500

"Just because we've been playing so well with that lineup, why shake things up?" Williams said. (about coming off the bench)
he did everything they asked of him, including quality minutes at 2, he did a damn good job vs D Wade in that series.

the classic appeal of livingston is always he really has the handle and passing skills to play PG, and i watched the nets a ton this year he really knows how to use his size well, whether its against a smaller player or jumping amongst the trees.

Also his recovery story is pretty amazing, just reading about that injury will send chills down your spine, he didn't just tear all 4 ligaments in his knee, his knee/ kneecap totally dislocated from the socket, his leg legitimately snapped in half, doctors initially told him to be prepared for amputation..

he is not a threat from 3 but he doesn't take bad shots, at all, his .483 FG% was only bested by Tony Parker for PG's this season, when hes on the perimeter he has his head up ready to pass or drive, he still has an explosive first step, and he can still finish over traffic. he makes winning plays, is a plus rebounder, gets steals and blocks, you can trust him with the ball or at the line (83%) during the end of games

Livingston is the **** and I absolutely want him on this Jazz team for at least a couple of years.

Classic example of just looking at a player's box score. Livingston outplayed DWill against the Heat IMO.

I think the Jazz will want to bring in a better veteran PG to help and backup Burke.

Andre Miller?

I'd be fine with either Livingston or Miller, but Livingston has more in the tank IMO.

Mike Scott had some nice moments for Atlanta during the playoffs. I think a couple teams will go after him as a backup PF.

I wouldn't mind Marvin Williams off the bench. He fits in fairly well.

I like Shaun Livingston, but wonder if he'd take the backup PG minutes from Burks. He might even be able to start for a few teams.

I like Isaiah Thomas, but he'll need at least 25 mins./night.

Jason Smith is decent bench fodder.

Xavier Henry made some strides this year for the Lakers as did Wesley Johnson.

I'd take a look at Adonis Thomas. He has some talent.

The players that I know about and can comment,

Livingston, definitely would be a good back up and I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be a late late bloomer. He always shows flashes that he could be so.

Mike Miller, no need to comment about his shooting, I can comment however on his smarts, one of the highest BIQ in the league and a great team player, too bad you can never trust his health, he had a great healthy season last year, chances are that he might end up at the bench in a suit all season long.

Ariza, followed him since the Magic. Well above average wing defensively, would shine in the Jazz team in that way. I can't say the same basketball IQ wise though, if you are OK with plucking your own hair during games from time to time for the sake of improved defense, he would be great player to have.

Gortat, another player I followed since the Magic. If we send away a big, I'd consider him. But wouldn't be much excited either, he certainly lives in his own fantasy that he is a top 5 center in the NBA. Sometimes, he can force the things too much on the offense and he might not give a damn about the defense. He is a great center though, when he balances his game and give the genuine effort. Nevertheless, he's a diva.

Kirk Hinrich, I will quote the OP on this one,
Decent shooter, and gritty defender. Tough. Jazz sorely need these qualities.

Luol Deng, just a great player all around, won't improve our long distance shooting but he will improve everything else. If we can get his mature years for the Jazz with a good bargain, it would be delightful. He can be the ideal veteran player.

Vince Carter anyone? I certainly would consider him if we don't darft a wing.

Lowry, I don't know why we would consider him, did we give up on Burke? Lowry is starter in the league and will have to start in the Jazz team too. If we are thinking re-find a PG we should also consider getting one via a trade. A better one even.

Lance Stephenson, only if we lose Burks, he could be a good replacement.

Al-Farouq Aminu, a great player to improve the defense. He won't do anything else though. Still it would be cool to have a descendant of the Nigerian King on the team.

Spencer Hawes, wouldn't consider even if we trade away a big. He's a poor defender and even worse rebounder, not worth just to stretch our game.

Jimmer Fredette, well it will happen someday, why not now? :D

Here's the list of free agents, https://hoopshype.com/free_agency_2014.htm

I think we all want Lebron, but we need to be realistic. Melo wants a contender, money and a big city. Wade is a ghost. Bosh and Pau are overkill here, and probably overrated at this stage of their careers. Dirk and Duncan aren't leaving Texas, etc.

Having said all that, 2014 free agency offers the Jazz a very real opportunity to significantly improve their bench, and thus their team. Seeing our needs as, A. shooters, B. toughness and defense, C. SFs, and D. PGs, I've come up with the following names as possible targets:

(This list operates under two assumptions. A. The young core and rookies are focal points, and B. We aren't using our available cap space to absorb trash for picks again.

Vets off the Bench:

Kirk Hinrich - Decent shooter, and gritty defender. Tough. Jazz sorely need these qualities.

Andrei Kirilenko - Worth more than what he's making this year. Hometown ties, and a player option to leave sinking ship that is BK. If he'd come for 4 million, I'd welcome him home to finish his career here. SF is teams biggest need, since Hayward's 6'8" wingspan makes him an SG. If Hayward leaves, we really need help on the wing.

Ray Allen - One of the best shooters to ever do it. Probably wants a contender, but if he wants to coach after his career, coming here and teaching our guys to shoot would look great on his resume. Jazz were able to persuade him to talk to Trey before Heat game at ESA, so there might be a sliver of hope. Only made 3.2 mil this year. Since we'll have a lot of young players who will still be on rookie contracts, we could offer him a two year deal, with the second being a player option. Wishful thinking.

Shaun Livingston - had a solid year for BK. Length and D. Would be an awesome backup.

Mike Miller - past his prime, but healthier than he's been in recent years. Ray Allen theory.

Marvin Williams. At 3-4 mil, I like him. In a reserve role at SF, and SF only, I like him. Be certain his health checks out, though.

Pricey FA's Who We Could Get, But Probably Aren't Worth It:

Eric Bledsoe - Depending on who we draft, and what kind of offer another team throws at Hayward. If Phoenix is one of those teams, we should repay the favor by going after Bledsoe. Still young. Defensive upgrade at the point.

Trevor Ariza - long and athletic defender for the wing. Only 28 yr old. Could be a plan B if we don't get an SF from the draft who we feel is worth starting, and if Hayward leaves. When all is said and done, it's rather depressing.

Luol Dang - Great D and length. Is still 29, so you probably have to pay him. At 29, you wonder how many decent years are left.

It's a Risk:

Michael Beasley: has produced in limited minutes for the Heat this year. Contract would be cheap. Is still only 25. Have to be sure the shenanigans are in the past. Huge risk. Big reward.

What do you guys think? Who should we target, and why would they be good fits here?

This is the worst offseason wish-list I've seen assembled. Did you copy it from SLC Dunk or Purple and Blues?
