What Would Have to be Included in a LaVine Trade to Make it Acceptable?

This one’s for @fishonjazz … look it up and do the math. It won’t make it amazing but if the cap goes up 15m a year for 3 years it’s easier to manage. The cap environment is also changing a lot as teams don’t want to spend so you may have a harder time moving off money going forward.
Sir you are accountant. Make the math math.

I’m coming around. But let’s complete the sense-making.

I believe the Jazz would still need to add salary to get to the salary floor even in the Lauri R&E context and Chicago needs to cut salary this off-season. So:

JCx2 (and immediate cap savings/TPE)

For

-Lavine
-Lonzo
-2031 Chicago 1st (they have a protected pick owed which means only ‘29-‘31 are currently tradable and we could use picks further out. Top-3 else 2nd rounder is fine.)
-2029 or 2027 swap (would be nice to get a super swap [Chicago’s pick is swappable with any that the Jazz own]. We have probably an over abundance of quantity of picks, it’s probably time to start thinking about focusing on improving the quality over the quantity).

I’m open to it, depending on what the pick was (unprotected is a given). It looks like we’re not going to be competitive for a while so the contract may be largely irrelevant. Or we will trade Lauri, then making this move is even more of a no brainer.

Better yet, why would he want to wave it at all? It’s a negotiated benefit of his contract
One reason would be if he’s wanting to go to a new place. He’s not getting the trade kicker sitting in Chicago and if the trade kicker keeps him in Chicago, then that’s one reason to waive it. Whether he’d waive that for us is a totally separate question, though, but there are select scenarios where it may be strategically appropriate to waive it.

1 unprotected, 1 protected and a swap then I would do it. Or 1 unprotected and 3 swaps.
