Why doesn't anybody talk about Aldridge or Love?

Favors will never have LA's offensive skill, but LA's offensive skill isn't very efficient. He is a true go-to, unstoppable player when on fire. That is his strength. That he can just iso and score by turning over his shoulder on just about anyone in the league (other than Gobert). You also see games where he shoots the same shots but they just don't fall (like the last game vs. Memphis when they got physical with him). I can see why we would want him in that regard since we don't have that kind of unstoppable heat check player, but I'm just meh on those kinds of dudes.

Yeah it's the combo with Gobert that really has power to it. Freedom to just go at it offensively, and a clean-up guy who is already one of the very best in the league of cleaning up the shot rebounds off missed mid-range shots. Gobert will be the one averaging 70% from the field and 15 pts just cleaning up LA's (and others) misses. LA will jump his average. Fill in around it and wow.

The way I see it both Aldridge and love are overrated. And didn't do much to elivate their teams. Favors isn't far behind them in talent and actually wants to be here and is still getting better with his prime way ahead of him. He's even talked about extending his jump shot to the 3 point line. Both Love and Aldridge have peaked.

For me it's still Favors.

Aldridge was truly amazing last playoffs, especially vs. Houston (IIRC). He definitely put the team on his back for a playoff series against a good team.

I don't see LA getting any better. He is what he is. He isn't going to suddenly become more efficient and I'm not sure he works in a ball movement offense that doesn't want a ton of ball-stoppage isolation plays.

He was truly amazing in a few games then he disappeared. Didn't they get blitzed in the next round. Let's see him carry the team for more then two playoff games and do it in multiple years.

Durants free agency is coming up... We should probably start talking about that.

With all due respect, Durant is a top 5 player. Neither Love nor Aldridge are in the same category, IMO. With our up and coming team and our coach, it's not outside the realm of possibility that we may actually be able to attract a premier free agent at some point.

You guys really think they'd even talk to us? They have their pick of pretty much any team that has max cap space or that can force Portland into a sign and trade... These guys are blue chip free agents in a free agent market where MANY teams have money. If we are going to dream then let's dream bigger.

Also, Love will opt in to the final year of his deal... if he waits until next year to sign a max deal it is worth a ton more. This is probably a better discussion to send to general NBA because the Jazz won't be involved with these guys at all.

Let the cake bake

Also an Aldridge or Love max deal starts at around $20ish M... we don't have that cap space. We might be able to clear enough for a Middleton type max deal which would start at $15-$16M.

Will favors be where Aldridge is in 6 years? (the difference in their ages). I say, perhaps.

Favors/Gobert are the best defensive front court in the league, and people want to break that up instead of improving our offense at other positions? smdh Utah has a strong foundation to build upon, so let's do that and try to improve on our weaknesses instead of breaking apart our strength. Favors is a borderline all-star, 2 way player who likes it in Utah and signed a team friendly contract. He ain't goin' nowhere, and we aren't sending him to the bench to bring in someone else.

Yeah, and you don't want to risk pissing off the guy who has been the more pro-Utah as a place to live guys in franchise history for a very outside chance of getting Aldridge.

Aldrige's efficiency has been down the last several years. I don't think people realize that, but he's shooting .528 TS%, 48% eFG... that's really bad for a big. It is below average for the league. Just as a comparison - Favors has never shot lower than that. Hell even with the 'meh' season Enes was having for us, he had higher %s than Aldridge.

We definitely have the cap space.

We can definitely create the space by cutting all of our unguaranteed players and not extending the QO to Ingles... and trading Trey Burke for no incoming salary, but that is what it would take to get to the required $19 M in cap space.

I've said it in the past many times, but it keeps being more and more true:

Millsap>Aldridge>Love

Millsap's free agency will be really interesting. He'll be 30 and a max salary for him would be $19 M... I wonder if someone is crazy enough to offer it.
