What's new

With the 47th Pick, Kevin Murphy

If this guy turns out to be Mo Almond he'll easily be our 2nd best SG and 3rd best wing. I'd take Mo over CJ, Raja, and Josh Howard. I would also like to add that this guy seems a lot more athletic than Mo. I seem to remember Mo struggling to get open or create in the NBA due to his lack of athleticism. This guy looks like he can at least run and jump...

I think people are forgetting how pathetic Raja was last year and how useless chucker Howard was. Raja was seriously worse than John Starks and Calbert Cheney. And those guys sucked. Howard was basically Big Al but a SF version... He did nothing but chuck... And...

CJ was CJ. Drunk most of the time but once in a while would hit a 3...

Burks and Hayward should get heavy minutes this next year... I think this more athletic version of Mo Almond has a good chance of making the team. If he can hit a 3 once in a while that will put him above Raja and Josh. If he can create a lil, stay sober sometimes, and tie his shoe, he'll be a step ahead of CJ.

I hope KOC is creating a bidding war...even if there isn't really one. Both LA and Dallas want this deal to happen, so either could step forward with additional value. Problem is the TPE expires in December. Players generally don't get traded then; last year was an odd situation. Really, the TPE needs to be used before training camp and likely in the next couple of weeks when free agency and player movement is at a peak. My fear is that like so many times before, Greg and KOC will opt for cash savings and just let the TPE expire. Then KOC will tell us at the trade deadline that he shopped Jefferson and Harris, but there was nothing out there that would have made the team better. In the end, Jazz may let all 3 big assets go unused.

I have been physically ill all night watching what might have been. I really wish I never gave up drinking. Utah could have seriously stacked the deck for years to come. Instead, we have to have pretty much everything work out just right, or we will be stuck on the treadmill of mediocrity for years to come.

If he can make the three and the curl shot at the elbow, he will find a spot on the Jazz roster. Hopefully, he turns out better than CJ Miles.

I don't think so

Kevin Murphy plays the game just like Rip Hamilton
runs a lot to get to the ball
uses screens
I watched him a few times this year, he can shoot.
what is good news is he can shoot off the dribble and that behind the 3 pt. arc.
great shooter, lanky guy.
can he defend in NBA?
I have doubts.

...Kevin Murphy is the 2. coming of Rip Hamilton, great scorer, on D?

Not exactly a potential draftee but Kevin Murphy of Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles is a fine basketball player with sound fundamentals.

Last time I wathced was like a few days ago and their season ended, barring an invitation to NIT or NCAA Tourney.
He made me think of Rip Hamilton during the game.
Has a sweet stroke, buried some incredible shots.
This guy has "some" pro potential, be it in Europe or NBA.
BTW,
My first post in the "new" Jazzfanz.
I used to have the Go-khan nick with a fricking Ostertag avatar here on Jazzfanz (before the collapse)
I opted to return to my old nick Tark, I used on Jazzhoops.

Having watched the videos, read about, and listened to the various interviews (Murphy, KOC, Corbin) I've come to the conclusion that this guy might be able to help us a great deal.

- Our 3pt shooting was the main concern last year. This is his STRENGTH. We've asked for it - we've got it.
- Our mid range shooting was also poor (with the exception of Millsap).
- He'll be able to come off those curls and really help us knock down a lot of those 'sitters'.
- He's 6'6 - so it's not like he won't be able to compete against legit NBA SG.

If he can imitate even 80% of the kind of success that Matthews was able to achieve - I think we'll be pleased with him at the #47 spot. Both were seniors. Matthews went undrafted. Both are known for their shooting abilities rather than their physicality.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is a template there and he seems to me to have all the tools needed to be successful.

Here's hoping for the best.

Could be we drop CJ AND Raja, while adding Murphy and Mo. I'm not so sure Josh Howard or Jeremy Evans will be back either... If not Hayward can split time at SF and SG. Millsap can cover some SF time too. If our man Burks can show more consistancy at SG, he'll get more PT at SG...
Anyway, Murphy's got more going for him NOW that we need (long-range scoring) than anyone else I saw that was available. And he's a gym-rat, has STEADILY improved his game, including rebounding. Perhaps Alec Burks II with a better outside shot...

This pick helps boost the bench for the loss of Raja, Howard, and CJ. I don't see more than one of those guys coming back, maybe none.

Howard wasn't a good shooter for us. I'm glad we are adding a player with that ability. If he pans out he'll it will help improve one of our main weaknesses.
Got to trust the Jazz on second round picks. They've been one of the best at it since KOC got here.

I guess I didn't expect a starter or anything with the 47 ... so I'm kinda meh anyway. Would have been excited had DMiller dropped one more spot.

I trust the Jazz's draft choice. They have a pretty good talent at finding good players late in the 2nd. With that said, why are people so pissed we didn't draft some guys that everyone else passed up on too?
