With the 5th pick the Utah Jazz select Noah Vonleh

PG_AB is captain of the Vonleh train, sorry.

yeah PG_AB has been talking about Vonleh since he was in high school. Distinctly remember him asking Peeks what he thought of Vonleh like 1-2 years ago.

FWIW I am 100% on board with Vonleh at the 5th pick. He's gonna be a stud.

Did PG_AB ever use Vonleh as his avatar? Looks like he's more interested in side boob.
But that's ok, I'll ride shotgun.

And I will admit I was having a hard time deciding between Vonleh and Gordon at #5 at one point. Had Gordon as my avatar for a couple of days before switching to Vonleh.

dr. J holding his own. length is very similar, but vonleh has sick width. that thumb doe

dr. J was MJ before MJ. that huge hands made him to maneuver all kind of creative moves in the air.

Dr J has enormous hands.
That's why he could stick the ball in an opponents face and dare him to take it away.
That's why he could do those spectacular plays.
If Vonleh's hand is even bigger that alone deserves consideration as a serious factor.

if it is between randle and vonleh, i may have to lean towards vonleh and his upside.

randle has 8.75 length / 8.25 width handsize. that's barely bigger than mine. randle basically can't really palm the ball. compare that to vonleh's 9.75/11.25. it's like a baby hand. huge hand sizes helps player in a traffic. PFs with huge hands tend to become a better passer - chris webber for ex.

bottom line huge hands really is a great tool if you know how to use it. look at 4:10. sick, sick, sick

Vonleh's hands actually measured 11¾" wide according to DX. 3" bigger than Randle

¼" less than the combine record holder Greg Smith. check out 0:55 into this vid, Smith is just casually snatching entry passes with 1 hand.

I would be very comfortable with Vonleh at the 5th pick. Favors and Vonleh would protect the rim well for the Jazz. Hope we can find that ever elusive small forward also.

I'm old enough to remember Dr. J. from his playing days...in the ABA! Ron Boone, too.

I think if Vonleh can play both forward spots, he's a no brainer at #5.

Before you say Vonleh is exclusively a PF, ask yourself what Marvin Williams does that Vonleh can't do.

Vonleh can be our new Marvin Williams and slide over to the PF spot with the first substitution.

yeah it was probably around when he reclassified, so September 2012. a few things always stood out to me; I definitely thought hed be a matchup nightmare in the NBA, and a good fit next to Favors and/or Kanter

(skip to about 0:50) In HS his ballhandling isn't even remotely comparable to Favors. Obviously theres a huge disconnect between their outside shooting aswell.

"at the end of the day" most stretch 4 prospects usually have a major deficiency in weight, or length, or athleticism Vonleh has all of those at just 18 years old.

hes an extremely high character kid, very focused with a bigtime work ethic, theres no doubt in my mind that his upside is sky high; with hands like that his shooting touch is special.

I agree with those who have said the likelihood is small for trading down. Seems like every team just in back of the Jazz recognizes the talent pool is pretty equal at that point and has said they're looking to trade out or down. Still think Wiggins and Parker go 1/2, but I've got my fingers crossed, because I wouldn't be surprised to see Vonleh knock Exum down to 5th.

All the GMs are giving out signals that it's time to start discussing trades. I think teams would do that any year outside the top 3. The question is whether a team like Boston or the Lakers would get a better player in a trade than they could draft where they're sitting.

I don't think the Jazz will get offered a player that's significantly better than the talent they'd draft at #5 (Vonleh or Smart). Could happen though, and the Jazz seem to be exploring every avenue.

Just to reiterate, I think Vonleh with his length and athleticism can probably guard many of the league's SFs. I think you can put him out on the floor at the SF spot like the Jazz did with Marvin Williams the last couple of years. Remember, Marvin was an SF his first year with the Jazz.

I'm not saying Vonleh is a great perimeter defender, but I think he'll be okay at least.
