Following potential 2017 draftees...

What do you know about the great Mario Kegler?

Dropped this post about him in early July. I asked PKM about Kegler probably all the way back in 2013. He was HS teammates with Malik Newman, and UK had interest in both, I was trying to see If there was any sort of package deal. or if an early offer to Kegler would help the chances with Newman, back when Newman was still rated #1 in the class.

Cool. I always thought Kegler looked like a possible pro, the footage and articles from the top 100 camp look impressive (vs great competition!). Maybe he can jump the rankings like Dwayne Bacon did, now that he's headed to Oak Hill and playing his position. I definitely buy that Mario's got some finesse to his game, even though he's an obvious power wing prospect.

Harry Giles is transferring to Oak Hill too, who's easily one of the best PF's anybody could play with. Bacon shot up from the 50's, solidly into 5 star status last year playing SF there, I like his chances. They also a guard there who I think is very underrated right now somewhere in the 60's-90's, Ty-Shon Alexander. Oak Hill is always loaded, their coach has a career record of 800+ wins and 49 losses...

I'm btw very surprised considering how highly the '17 draft has been projected by you guys all those years to see 2 Germans in lottery range there. Or it's just Givony doing politics.

Mushidi seems a bit flakey, Ive seen him play a few times obviously watching Hartenstein. There's something there though, he's sort of Victor Oladipo-ish. I thought he passed the ball well on the perimeter, makes quick reads/ see's the floor well.

There's some zingers in that DX report though "too strong to get posted up by powerforwards" that is certainly an exaggeration.

Hartenstein IMO is a better long-term prospect than Thon Maker and deserves to be in the lottery.

Kegler coming to Mississippi State. Book it.

If Newman returns, sure. If not, They'd need a bigman in 2016 too, one of James Banks, De'Ron Davis or Schnider Herard.. And a PG, Tyson Carter from Starksville blew up in July, or Dejon Jarreau. I like some of those players and its a novel idea, not sure why they'd all gravitate to the other MSU though. I don't really see how that's in their best interests.

He'd do great next to a player like Thon Maker, if ASU can pull that off.

UConn would certainly have much better pieces to surround him with too.

As much as I like Kegler, I think 4 star UNLV recruit, Justin Jackson is a better prospect. He's more versatile and passes like a guard, both have 7'2" wingspans IIRC.

kind of a Draymond Green type skillset, he's a SF though, not a SF/PF. Thon is in these highlights too, #20.

Because of Ben Howland. He will be making moves. Having a strong year with Newman will be key. He did recruit Eli White over Florida and Connecticut, so it's a sign that they are gaining more respect from recruits.

Here's an absurdly underrated (3 star) prospect, that has a DX profile which reads "Potential NBA prospect" in the outlook. something doesn't add up... He's 6'7" long, bouncy as hell, dunk contest worthy, and has a nice looking jump-shot. Bit of a Ballhog/chucker. UCLA bound. Will be an interesting prospect to track, he's from the Philippines.

We dont like people with the name of Kobe around here.

Kobe's dad is a former Phillipino basketball player who was one of the best in the league. His dad is also a famous actor in the Philippines and his mother was a model/actress. His brother is also an actor/model in the Phillipines. It's safe to say this dude has probably had it pretty easy and just dominated the Philippines in HS, which is probably why he can't pass or play consistent defense (from what DX says), he never had to.

Heh, Thon Maker is still shrouded in mystery at this point, and with his brother around it's easy for them to kick up dust in any direction. I still think Kentucky will swoop in and get him somehow. Arizona St. seems to be the favorite at this point.

You know there's a second Bongo right? Class of '18, he's already the same size as Myck, and holds offers from Indiana and Virginia Tech. his OFFICIAL mixtape just dropped;

Time to resurrect bongofanz.com

This mix that dropped the otherday on Sacha Killeya-Jones is my favorite one out there. After further consideration, I think he's probably a 5 star talent and could even be a one-and-done if he continues to add strength at this current pace.

At this point I prefer him over T.J. Leaf as an NBA prospect, who's rated near the top-10 by the services..

As I understand it, SKJ Is the type of player who's really got many different tricks in his bag, he's equipped with basically all the tools you'd look for from a PF and really just needs experience and good coaching.

I'd bet in the not too distant past he had no idea how good he was capable of being. Reminds me a bit of Ivan Rabb these days.

@EvanDaniels
Sacha Killeya-Jones has committed to Kentucky.

The thing is, at UCLA he's going to play with Lonzo Ball, who literally throws QB type passes to cherry pickers like its standard. Paras couldn't ask for a better PG to play with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQkt1l5X6P8 - 4 points 8 assists 12 rebounds.. (check out the passes!!)

I can't ever remember seeing a player display the type of vision that Ball has in HS.. I can't really hate on the Jason Kidd comparison that some have made.

Yeah, but is this dude really going to be playing that much (or being able to facilitate as much as he would like if he does play) with the Coach's son also playing PG?

Also, 4 pts, 8 assists, 12 rebounds sucks for a HS game. Let's be honest.

If its stats you're looking for, Lonzo Ball posts these insane triple doubles, regularly... Some like to question the competition he's playing against. Recently vs 5-star Kobi Simmons one of the other top Guards in the class of 2016, he dropped 36-10-9 and then 22, 16 and 12 vs Mustapha Heron's(2016 5 star SF) AAU team. The AAU team with Ball and his Bro's play at a lightning quick pace, thats conducive to outrageous stat lines.

his release is really funky, this video shows it well. Almost fools me into thinking hes about to throw a pass sometimes. the youngest brother, LaMelo, is in these highlights playing against competition near 5 years older, Lonzo passes him the ball at 0:33. He gets his other bro LiAngeo an open look at 1:15.

Any U of U fans remember Kim Tillie from a few years back? Well his younger brother, Killian, whos near 6'10 looks pretty good. Worthy of mention in these threads.

I'm posting 3 x 3 highlights just because.

The best Japanese player you will ever see, guaranteed!! Looks to have a ton of potential IMO. a gigantic SF prospect with a nose for the ball. he will certainly fill out to have an imposing frame. DX has a scouting report on him already.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byerU97C-Pw - In the game vs the US in these highlights, you can see the lopsided score... I think at one point it was 47-8 and Rui scored all 8. He ended up leading the event in scoring.
