Looking for a new team

Oh I think their strategy is perfectly clear, Develop homegrown talent then supplement with trade and vets. I think they just erred on the side of caution last year.

Develop homegrown talent for whom? Trade when? If Gordo walks for nothing, won't that at least get some of the apologists to start questioning DL's competence?

Last year? What about the year before? Or the year before that? Or the year before that? We're going into DL's 5th season as GM (this is his 4th full offseason). The best player he's traded for is Shelvin Mack, who couldn't even get PT on a treadmill team in the Eastern Conference (with that said, it was a nice little trade). The best free agent or waiver acquisition he's made is for Trevor Booker. In 4 seasons as GM.

If you're not tanking, you have to be active in adding talent, especially if you operate in Utah. DL might be the least active GM in the league. For me, this offseason and Gordo's future represent DL's last chance to get something right.

I feel them saying that is playing it off.

I felt their actions and words spoke to that sentiment. Had they acted and said they were out to win early or to start the season and then at the end of the season changed I would have felt they were playing it off. They didnt sign vets or pick up anyone to bolster the bench or take minutes away from young players. They gave young players lots of minutes and put them in tough positions. They let Hood play a lot more point forward and asked him to do way more they he was comfortable with. They didnt rush back injured players even when the games seemed to matter. They played with lineups, positions and strategies a lot throughout the season. There are other signs but those are all signs of a team trying to develop and evaluate.

The problem is, the Jazz don't have a clear strategy. They're neither tanking nor adding talent.

I don't see it this way at all and I think many here would agree.

I think if we add P.J. Tucker/Crabbe and select a solid big at 12 OR select Luwawu/Korky at 12 and use our 2nds to move up to draft a solid big (Maker/Qi?) and maybe upgrade our backup pg spot behind Exum, I think we've added solid depth, even though the draft picks will take time and be developmental, because we've seen enough of our young guys develop and develop quickly under Quin to think that rookies will contribute solidly by mid-season. I think there are other variations of how we can maneuver but the general point is made.

That's a ton of young talent, enough to win 50 games next year imo. In essence, we'll have added Exum, Burks, Luwawu and Maker/Qi and also have another year under our belt for our young guys. We simply need to be healthier and if we are, I think we could shock people at how good we can be.

We gutted the team. We tanked for a couple years. We acquired as much assets as possible and have tried to develop them as much as possible. The big if is Hayward leaving. But there are no signs of that. The FO is aware of his contract situation and I am sure are feeling it out and are not afraid to do something if they felt he was leaving. But signs point to him staying. This year was the last year of tanking, handing the reigns over to the second youngest team in the NBA and not giving them help is tanking. The team played well and we started to see we have a few really good players. Last year was tanking, the year before was tanking... We have a lot of young talent for a reason on this team. I expect the pick this year to get traded unless they dont get a decent offer. I expect future picks and a couple players to be on the trading block to improve this team. I expect a vet or two to be signed as a FA. This off season is huge for this organization. If next year this team sucks and doesnt make the playoffs and Hayward leaves the organization messed up and will have to reset again. But I dont see that happening.

Burks and Exum arguably aren't upgrades over the players who played to end this past season (Mack/Neto, Gordo/Hood/Ingles). The West was also surprisingly weak in the middle (after the top 4), which is unlikely to continue this coming season. The Jazz won't crack 50 wins or a top-4 seed without some major talent upgrades. Additional depth won't move the needle very much.

It took Sloan 1 year to get a "gutted" team back to the playoffs and I believe he was in a worse situation player wise than we are now.

It is sad what low self esteem we as Jazz fans have. A lot of you expect Hayward to leave, without really any signs point to that. If we can not keep our best players then what is the point of trading him for another chance at a good player? He will just walk to when he becomes a UFA right?

So our best hope is to win a championship according to the people who want to trade Hayward for a pick is to get enough talent on rookie contracts or their first contract when they are a RFA to win it all?

1. The Jazz were tanking the last two seasons? All they ended up with were a couple mid-1st round picks and the loss of a previous #3 pick for nothing.

2. Not afraid to do something? What happened with Al and Millsap in DL's first season? How quickly did the FO move on Kanter after he made a mess of his exit interview in 2014 and reportedly asked for a trade that summer? Why should I expect the FO to do what they couldn't/didn't do the last 4 years?

3. Why don't you see Gordo leaving? Every quality unrestricted free agent the Jazz have had during DL's tenure has walked for nothing. Gordo's smart enough to find an organization that's actually committed to trying to win.

The last 6 years have been nothing short of a train wreck.

I would just like to point out it has been 6 years since the Celtics have been to the finals and their fan base isn't looking for a new team.

It has been 6 years since the Lakers won a championship but did you see how many Lakers jerseys show up to Jazz games?

The Thunder have only been to one finals in the past 6 years, but they ain't complaining.

The Spurs and Mavericks have won just one title each in the past 6 years.

You see the NBA is full of ups and downs, you just gotta ride this out for another 20-30 years.

The Jazz missed the playoffs for 3 seasons -- 2004-2006. The two biggest differences between then and now:

1. Deron >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Exum.

2. KOC was active in adding talent to the team; DL does **** all.

Philly could be a lot of fun. Ben Simmons, two other 1sts this year, Saric, even word that Embiid looks great, plus their 1st AND the Lakers 1st next season. **** should be fun as hell the next few seasons.
