What's new

Malone is not coming to the Jazz reunion event due to "prior" commitments

I don't know, maybe I'm in the minority here but this "anniversary" celebration is kind of sad. What are we celebrating? The team that almost won the championship? It makes our franchise look desperate.

Last year they invited like the 84 team iirc. Should they rip down the Malone statue out front because he didn't win a championship? I think it's cool for the franchise to invite former teams back.

I also don't think that it's a big deal that Malone isn't coming. It's basically a high school reunion. I don't care if he's busy or if he just doesn't want to, not a big deal.

Wait, what?

They're celebrating people who put in a lot of effort to help shape and maintain this Jazz organization we all love so much. To me, it makes the franchise look like they appreciate everyone who plays a part.

Last I heard of any interaction between Malone and the Jazz was when they hired him to work out Kanter and Favors. That just sort of faded away and it's seemed pretty quiet between the 2 parties ever since.

Well, Malone's ties to the Jazz were primarily through Larry and Jerry. There is no one in the current Jazz organization that Malone gives a whit about. The fact that the Jazz refused his offer of help with coaching or player training had to offend him, so why should he care about a Jazz promotion?

Be content with our memories and move on.

The 20 year reunion of the team that finally got us over the hump in the playoffs and to the Finals after years of disappointing playoff endings. Which might not be as big as a championship but it was the biggest moment in team history.

Why do they want it to coincide with the Knicks being here?

They have a certain coach who was a certain player for a certain team during a certain year.

Actually they have 2 certain coaches who where two certain players for a certain team during a certain year.

It's too bad if he's holding that against the Jazz. Karl has been very all over the place in retirement and I seriously doubt he would have held down some sort of permanent job offer from the Jazz when there's so much hunting and fishing to be done.

Got us over the hump? The collective hump for all teams in the playoffs is a championship. Period. This is blatant lowering of the proverbial bar. If you make the finals and don't win the chip, it's still disappointing. All this franchise has had is decades of disappointing playoff endings.

I have no issues with celebrating former players. Most franchises do this by hanging the player's jersey in perpetual honor up in the rafters. We've done this. We even put two statues out front of the team's arena to honor two of our greatest individual players.

Celebrating the team that almost made it is low brow garbage.

Only 1 date they can do it, when the Knicks come to town.

Would you rather do it without Horny or without Malone? Let's be honest: If you're holding a reunion for that team, there's only 2 guys that absolutely have to show up. Anybody else is icing on the cake. Why not just wait until next year when Horny is unemployed and celebrate the 21st anniversary? (Joke)

Did you enjoy watching those teams? Good lord dude, just let people celebrate a good team.

I think they'd rather do it with people they can get to come and they are guaranteed to get Eisley and Horny (as well as sell more tickets to the game) if they do it when the Knicks come to town.

Some Jazz fans are such damn babies. People arent allowed to enjoy anything if they arent a championship team I guess. If the Jazz have a bad first half against the Clippers we might as well forfeit the game. If Malone can't come to a celebration show then everything is ruined. Whine whine whine whine.

And by no means am I saying you should settle or be content with not being the best, but you should be able enjoy the process and look back at what you accomplished and be proud of it, even if you fell short in the end.

I agree completely. Championships are the goal. But if you lived through the 90's as a Jazz fan you understand what I mean by over the hump. We had several good teams that fell short in the Western Conference playoffs. And if you lived through the 90's you understand how big it was when Stockton it that 3 in Game 6 of the WCF to finally get us to the Finals. It wasn't the ultimate goal but it was still a huge moment.

I wonder if they'll be passing out orange slices to all of those that attend.

Damn bro, the lack of accomplishment you feel in your life makes you a bitter dude.

We all love you, VINYLONE!
