What's new

Nikola Mirotic

It wasn't a quote from Favors, it was a quote from Locke. I.e. Locke's perception of Favors' feelings.
And even then it wasn’t saying that Favors is set on the four, it’s saying that we won’t use him at the four, simply meaning he comes off the bench.

I guess it's kind of a positive thing we arent hearing any other rumors w/ other teams.

Also, don't the Jazz/Bulls have a good relationship? I remember they gave us the trade exception for Boozer when they didnt have to.

Sans Ainge, I think that’s been fairly standard.

Or we could just start Mitchell as PG and send Rubio to the damn bench. That solves the problem quite nicely.

I thought so too until I saw Gobert's stats last year stats with/without Favors. Like day and night. This duo just does not work, makes our all-NBA player ineffective and unhappy.

There can be no doubt that Favs is on the trading block. The decision will be, is getting a player back better for us in terms of talent and cap space or is letting him walk at the end of the year better. That is not near as easy of a decision of folks make it seem. As for playing 4 versus 5, I think Favs has adapted really well. I would bet that he is very happy at the 5 as long as he gets to play. Don't see that as an issue at all.

Getting a player back is always better, even if it doesn't workout. First of all, it sets a precedent that the team no matter what will always try to better itself and the creates a winning atmosphere around the rest of the team. When they stand around and watch a guy that has been a part of the organization for over 5 years and someone that they played along side with and practiced with day in and day out, leave for absolutely nothing??? What do you think that does to the morale

The real deal Holyfield is, Favors is not going to be a viable option in todays style of NBA over the next several years. The Power Forward is less Power than its ever been and that recedes more and more with every year. Mirotic is the 4 spot that we need to have to be competitive in todays NBA. And that hurts me saying that because of growing up watching basketball in the old school late 90's when Power Forwards were hurting driving opponents inside the lane. But these are the days were living in. And to be a competitive team in todays NBA, we need a PF that can do just that. The last time that we had that (or was close) was with Paul Millsap. Had we made him an offer and tried to keep him around we would've seen that. People forget that one of the introductions to "small ball" started with Coach Sloan in 2008. The Jazz had extreme success running a lineup of Carlos Boozer @ the 5, Paul Millsap @ the 4, Andrei Kirilenko @ the 3, Kyle Korver @ the 2 and of course D-Will @ the 1. Even though it wasn't truly "small ball", coach Sloan introduced getting multiple players on the floor regardless of position to stretch the floor. I need to remind myself that when new ways are introduced into the game I love, to not be so quick to reject them. With that said I think Mirotic fits the profile of what we need. Not to mention that he wants to come play for Utah.

I guess they have a good relantionship. Also, it's worth noting the Jazz sent a 2nd rounder for the TPE

IMO, it would be a failure on the part of the FO to not move Favors before the deadline. Which is why I expect them to do it.

Favors needs to embrace the reality that he is now a 5. It's not the end of the world - the new 5 is basically like the old 4. Adapt or die, dude.

Getting a player back is often worse. Cap space flexibility can be a good thing.

I think using Favors to dump Burks is better than trying to make another questionable player fit. I proposed an idea in the Would You Trade thread.

Plus Smith? Plus, they'd have Favors' rights and a clear role for him.

What do you mean by “favors rights?” I thought he was unrestricted at the end of the year.

I don't think Favors has enough value to make a team absorb Burks contract. Unless you are willing to take some of their trash too. And, as I think you proposed (Atlanta right?), the other team has some assurance Favors will resign

I think Atlanta has more to gain from Favors in a business sense. As Georgia Tech grad, he will have more of a following than a normal signing. And I dont think Burks is that bad of a deal. Its not like he is Mahinmi, Asik or Biyombo. He might actually contribute.

We take back Muscala which is pretty bad compared to Burks.

Millsap didn't play next to Boozer to stretch the floor (what?), Sloan played them together because he was finding ways to get his best players the most minutes.

Pretty immaterial to all of this but whatever.

Favors isn't moving tickets in any market.
