What's new

Portland

Being from Ogden myself, I actually don't have a clue what they say about Ogden girls. What do they say?
Probably that since it's Ogden, it's likely they're Latina, which means by default, they have to be REALLY SCARY.

Not wanting Lillard on the Jazz would be ludicrous.
Thinking the Jazz can get Lillard would be ludicrous.

Guy I played ball with has worked in Weber's athletic department. Lillard's been nothing short of amazing as a person.

You're a bit in denial on this. If (big if), Simmons learns how to shoot then you have a guy that comes close to LeBron's skill set. Even now he's a much bigger Jason Kidd which is pretty awesome.

The downside is he could become Blake Griffin if he loses a step and doesn't learn how to shoot consistently.
Basketball stuff aside, Mitchell loves it here and is loved by the community.

Now the basketball stuff. Simmons is a PG that is a worse shooter from distance than Rubio has ever been. Who would you rather have Dwayne Wade or Jason Kidd? How about Wade with a jumpshot or Lebron without one? Frankly Simmons is a good player that may eventually become a decent shooter. However for this franchise at this time they are not trading Mitchell for Simmons. They simply would not. Mitchell is a better fit here and at this time a better player IMO.

If you think most pro athletes are bad people in real life, you're ignorant.

"Rare." Lol

I never said athletes were bad people, but please keep inferring what hits home for you. I said he was a good person, which is indeed rare. the majority of us are "meh" or below, athletes included.

Haha! I mean to be fair, I've met some pretty scary Latina women in Ogden. Just don't tell my wife that (also an Ogden Latina).

Simmons is a bit of a diva. He has an arrogance about him that probably wouldn't fit in well with our team. Not to mention he probably wouldn't want to play here. The Jazz wouldn't trade Mitchell for Simmons. And tbh as good as Simmons is I think that Mitchell has a higher ceiling. I'm not sure that Simmons will ever develop a jumper or become a go-to scorer.

If Simmons learns to shoot is like saying if DM grows 6 inches. Guy has been in a gym his whole life... ain’t like he forgot to work on it.

Ok, guy...

Please point out where I said athletes are bad people. There is a difference between what I said and what you inferred, and if you can’t delineate that, well, that’s just ignorant. Also, I’m not your guy, buddy.

Tony Parker and Jason Kidd got dramatically better at shooting through their careers. There have actually been lots of non-shooters who’ve learned to shoot at least a decent clip in their nba careers, so it isn’t a given he’ll be stuck like he is. I still prefer dm for this roster though.

Those guys at least attempted to shoot though Ben not so much... there have also been guys that grew later.

I just don’t like the notion that people keep selling “wait till he can shoot” like it is inevitably going to happen. It is a skill... sure but it is something that does not get figured out more often than not.

His shooting is so bad that a few experts think he shoots with the wrong hand.

Please, reiterate what you meant by "He’s a good person in real life which is rare among pro athletes" then...

As a 19 year old Tony Parker shot 68% from the free throw line and 32% from three on 2.5 attempts per game.

Karl Malone would be a better example of improving shooting that Simmon's could follow. For his sake hopefully he had Malone's work ethic to become a decent shooter.

Malone couldn't shoot free throws and had no jump shot coming into the NBA.

Jason Kidd shot 70% from the free throw line and 27% from three as a rookie. He at least shot it because he thought he could make it...

Ben shot worse from the free throw line than Shaq did as a rookie.... once Shaq can shoot he will be dominant.

Ben is and will be great... I’m going to go ahead and predict he is never a good shooter outside of 15 feet.

I guess but it was a different time... can u imagine a coach seeing that body in the gym and telling him to work on his jumper? He legitimately may not have worked on it until coming in the league.

Ben has had some free time the last couple years and the kids start working a lot earlier... he will get better at free throws but I’m not convinced he will ever reach Rondos level as a shooter.

I did write a post for clarity above, but I guess you require repetition. Very few people in general are “good people” in my eyes, which is the subject of this entire conversation —> my opinion. Most of us are “meh” or below. This includes athletes.

There are areas between good and bad mate. Most of us, including me and most pro athletes alike, fall somewhere in between.

Lillard was and is a good person.
Between his community efforts, charitable contributions to so many places, homage and loyalty to past relationships, and patronage to small town local purveyors (he even flies back to Ogden to support some local tattoo artists, pays them 1000 an hour to do the job they normally charge 75 for) he goes above and beyond what most people do.

But it was awesome of you to spin what I said to try to drum up some drama. That is what the internet is for after all. Anyway, let me know if you need more help understanding brevity.

I mean, Ben Simmons shot 33% from 3 in college (1 of 3 attempts lol) and 67% ft. I don’t know if he’ll ever get a decent shot or not. I’m just not convinced he won’t develop a satisfactory shot at some point because he has really finely developed motor skills in other areas. Shaq couldn’t shoot because he was on the other end of that spectrum.

Neither had the terrible shot mechanics of Simmons though. Is not only a matter of improving a shot, is learning how to shoot at the late age of 21/22 years old. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it will require a huge amount of work and dedication from Simmons.
