2019 trade deadline discussion

My actual thought last night was Lillard and then sign Harris in the offseason

But if I had my choice for next year it would be to cut ties with everyone and convince Klay thompson to take the max with us and then sign Tobias Harris for around 20 mil. Yes that is the Jazz spending 50 million in one offseason but

Mitchell, Exum
Thompson, Allen
Ingles, O'Neale
Harris, Crowder
Gobert, Bradley

Would be one hell of a team and add in our first round pick next year
 
Honestly, I want to add either Jaylon Brown or Brandon Ingram in 2020. Or maybe make a run at Kyle Kuzma this season should the Lakers cut his playing time/development.

Tobias Harris might be possible in 2019, but I just feel like there are going to be so many teams wanting to spend stupid money next summer.

Regardless, I'm really, really excited about the team we have for next season. So much is possible.

I’m a huge jaylen brown fan. He would fit perfect here I think.

You'd have to trade Crowder and Ingles or Exum into space to make that work.

no they wouldn't If the Jazz renounce the right to their free agents they would be sitting at about 58 to 59 million in salary with no holds They will have pretty close to 50 million they can spend that summer. I think the Max for Thompson would sit around 25 to 28 mil per year. no time right now to look it up and I would want to sigh harris for 17 to 20 million. That would keep the Jazz under the cap. They could then use their MLE and bi annual to fill out their roster

This will all become obvious when we extend or re-sign Rubio and match on Favors' deal next July. At that point, we won't have cap space to sign anybody substantial and we are going to wish we had another asset.

Why are you so dead set against adding a player in free agency? We’re obviously not signing a star, but there are plenty of really good players we can sign that instantly improve our team.

Nope they would have about ~41 to ~43

Gobert ~25mm
Ingles ~12mm
Exum ~10-11mm
Crowder ~8mm
Mitch ~3.5mm
Allen ~2mm
Royce ~1.5mm
Empty Roster charges ~4.5mm
About 67mm
109mm - 67mm = 42mm

Also Klay's max is 30% of the cap so around 33mm
 
If we're looking at next years Free Agency, the Jazz could have 54.6m in capspace by renouncing everyone not under a guaranteed contract. This is assuming a 109m cap.

However, this would include not guaranteeing Favors and renouncing Rubio's caphold. I don't believe the Jazz will do that. Assuming we don't make any huge trades, I think the following will happen:

Favors is picked up. 18m cap figure including likely incentives.
Rubio is not renounced. 22m cap hold. Likely contract will be 18 to 20m.
Donovan and Bradley are picked up. 3.6m and 2m respectively.
Neto is guaranteed. 3m dollars.
Royce is guaranteed. 1.6m.

These would put the Jazz about 101 to 103m. Assuming a cap of 109m, we'll have upwards of 8m below the cap to play with. This assumes Thabo, Epke, and Burks are renounced. This does not include next year's pick and any contract given to Niang or Stanton.

The Jazz aren't likely to make too big a splash next offseason unless both Favors and Rubio are renounced. Doing that free's 40m, but given their production and impact to the team, plus everyone and their family having capspace next offseason, I don't see that happening unless they either suck, want to leave, or we get a wink-nod from a better player at their positions.
 
I'm telling you guys right now, we are bringing Favors and Rubio back for 2019/20 unless one has a major injury (I hope not). And we aren't in the market for Klay or any major free agent in 2019.

Our best bet for a substantial addition prior to 2020 would be Tobias Harris. It would have to be so delicate though. He would have to want us AND both he and Favors would have to be on board with sharing time. I think it would be possible via trade at the deadline should we have a front court injury or something (which I dont want of course).
