Watching footage from the Forrestal Disaster is something every enlisted sailor watches 2-5 times. What this video doesn't show is John McCain running along the nose of his aircraft and jumping through flames to escape certain death. I served aboard an aircraft carrier so I watched the video 5 times. I also completed all the extra firefighting training that became mandatory after this happened. After this the saying in the Navy was that "every sailor is a firefighter" similar to the way the Marines say every marine is a rifleman. I can attest to the fact that the Forrestal Disaster changed the Navy in a very fundamental way. McCain should have died in that disaster. He didn't. He survived only to be captured and subjected to torture for more than 5 years.

His entire life has been devoted to the service of this ALWAYS Great nation. You show me someone else who has given more. I am proud to have served in the same Navy as John McCain. I'm proud of his service to my nation.
